Olympus does something pretty clever (hope Canon will follow)

Hi guys, i usually only start threads to share photos, but i saw something that got my attention and i think is incredibly clever.

Olympus is releasing a super zoom camera with a Red Dot sight for long range close ups in movement, i wonder if it is a possibility this starts being a "thing" in super zooms, including Canon.

Also, i think their new camera looks incredible, but that's not what this thread is about

.

That's pretty cool.

Does anyone make a red dot sight made to fit in the hot shoe of the SX50 ?

Yes, I read about it a month ago here:

All the best,

Augustin

And whats especially nice (and needed IMO), is it's 920 dot EVF! The Oly 820 series (same sensor) delivers very good IQ, but in bright sun, any LCD cam makes it very difficult to use. This looks to be a real heavy weight contender in the power zoom/bridge cam category.

Looks good to me, but I would miss the swivel LCD screen.

No RAW but Olympus JPEG engine is really good, so I could live with that.

This is something that interests me as well, i've searched amazon and i can't find anything, i'm sure that red dot sights made specifically for cameras would have a place in the market with all the super zoom cameras.

I'd see this being specially appetizing for the fine gentlemen who photograph birds, it would open a whole new world to BIF photos since it's much easier to keep the camera pointed at the bird to make beautiful photos.

Does this put the red dot on the subjects forehead like in the cop movies and TV shows?  Just kidding  I'd hate to give up RAW for this though!

I have a similar set up on my SX50, it works great for BIF shoots. I bought a red dot sight sight from a local sporting goods store, there are several brands but they all look like they come from the same manufacture http://www.opticsplanet.com/browning-buckmark-reflex-sight.html. I bought the hot shoe adapter from http://www.photosolve.com/main/product/xtendasight/ it is very well built all metal. Hope this helps those that are interested.

Orion telescopes sells them for astronomical telescopes, but you might need to modify this finder to fit the hot shoe.
