Odd: The UK gets a diff grip on G1X II than US/NA - wonder y & what else ?

US:

http://consumer.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_g_series/powershot_g1_x_mark_ii#Overview

UK:

Ah, saw that it is an optional grip in US/NA at least.

!! Funny, they mention the 'Star' mode - capture starry skies - come on, WHEN are there starry skies in the UK - 1,2 maybe 3 nights a year !!

If there were any more, the brits would go out & 'bark at the moon & stars' & after bar trip - see Trolls & fairies once again !!

On the Canon US site, the camera comes with the second grip for free as a "bundle".

That's nice, so you can try them both and see what you prefer, but I wonder how it attaches. Anyone know? I hope it's something interchangeable like clip or screw on, but I don't see that anywhere so maybe it's adhesive? I hope not.

From this image, it looks like it has two screws on the side:

You can see two screws on the side of the grip

I am not seeing the "bundle" you are referring to.  Probly just blind.  Where do you see this info?

Thanks

I am not seeing the "bundle" you are referring to.

I don't see a bundle either.

On the Canon USA web site, I see it in the Supplies & Accessories section:

"Custom Grip GR-DC1A, Optional Custom Grip provides better grasp, similar to grips found on DSLR cameras., Price: $29.99."

It's not included in the What's in the Box section.

UPDATE: OK, now I see the bundle. It's bundled if you buy the camera directly from Canon.

On the usa.canon.com site, I had clicked "preorder" and it brought up a screen showing the camera on one line for $799.99, and the grip on a seperate line for $0.00. I think it said "bundle" somewhere on the screen. I tried to do it again just now, but the "preorder" link is giving me an error.

Thanks for pointing out those screws- they were tiny and I missed them. In my head I was looking for something like on the Olympus models- a big fat screw that you can't miss (and I think you can unscrew with a coin or similar). I like that you won't feel these tiny screws, but I guess you won't be swapping it on the fly if you wanted to for some reason. Still, I like the option!

I believe that the UK is getting the Enhanced Grip Edition ; at least it's being advertised that way.

You can still preorder the bundle with grip by going through shop.usa.canon.com, but the link on the camera home page appears to be broken. For me, this might be a better option than bundling with yet another camera bag and/or memory card, as I did when I bought my G1X from B&H.

I don't understand why the UK is getting the "enhanced grip" but not the USA? I can't believe the English are anymore "fumble-fingers" than the Americans are.

Revenue enhancement (Canon) for US markets? And why would I buy direct from Canon when the street price will be less almost immediately?

I think the opposite: trying to meet a lower price point on the US market.

Huh? How much more could 2mm of plastic be?  Why not just make the larger one so there is only one mold?
