Fantastic.

I have been using this lens for 4 years on my 7D. It's got a lot of abuse but still takes fantastic pictures. I haven't a problem with this lens although the AF motor is starting to show the age of the lens design but it's still great.

i can only say the word "fantastic" for the 24-70 f2.8II. i have heard that the original version is not close to the iq and performance of the 2nd. version.

cheerz.

Re: Fantastic.

Well I haven't used the new one so I can't really say much Although this version tends to go around 1,100$ (used) which is half the price of the new one.

The new lens eats the old one for breakfast, though I only have experience using it on a 5D Mark III. Will be carrying only one lens to Fla next week and Russia in June. Taking the new 24-70. Too expensive, for sure. Filters cost me a fortune too. No lens droop. Lighter. A dream lens. Used it for studio shoots this week. Won't replace the 85 1.2, but it has a place. Rent it and try it. Just a lot of money for a lens you don't want to take off your camera.

Re: Fantastic.

My copy of the 24-70 I was fantastic, until I started doing more video work. Now I'm stuck trading for 24-105 IS to help in that department. I'm bummed out and excited all at once, it arrives today.

I agree with your 5-star; I can only imagine what the II is like...

I heard the II isn't a substantial improvement over the I

Re: Fantastic.

Just one thing, I do suggest the Sigma 24-70mm over this lens if weight/size are an issue and the Sigma has recently had some good deals.

As an owner of both, I respectfully disagree. Also, I think the consensus is that the wide open performance of the II version is considerably better, along the lines of the 70-200 f/2.8 I vs. II.

Re: Fantastic.

Similar to the 70-200 II? Well that then is a substantial improvement then.

Yes, to me, IQ between the 70-200 II and the 24-70 II is indistinguishable.

Both my 24-70 v1 and 70-200 f/2.8LIS v1 were quite good, so we're talking from very good to even better  The most noticeable improvement to me is wide open performance. The older lenses sharpened nicely in post, but the new versions have stellar sharpness and contrast right OOC.
