56mm 1.2 and 60mm 2.4 macro side by side

I ordered the 56mm 1.2 from Japan and it just arrived a little while ago. I thought it was going to be quite a bit bigger on heavier than the 60mm 2.4 of course it is a bit larger but as you can see it's not that much bigger and it doesn't feel that much heavier. I am going to India the end of next week and I just didn't want to go without this lens. I haven't shot with it yet but I just did a few quick iPhone photos to show the size comparison.

Sure wish Fuji stuck with the metal hoods.

Congratulations, I'm jealous.

Takes those hoods off to see the real difference. I have the 14 and 23 and 60, while the 14 and 60 do not seem that much smaller to look at handling is another thing.

Good luck and have a great trip/

Re: 56mm 1.2 and 60mm 2.4 macro side by side

If you look at a Canon 85mm 1.8 or 50mm 1.8 and compare to the size of the 1.2 versions there is a really big difference there, that's why I was pleasantly surprised the difference here is not as great especially going from a 2.4 to 1.2 lens.

56 mm is 80% heavier than the 60 mm and this is expected.

The 56 just arrived. I will have a chance to shoot with it tomorrow. I might get a chance to shoot a little later, not sure.

Re: 56mm 1.2 and 60mm 2.4 macro side by side

Yet it feels very light and well balanced. I had the 85 1.2 back in my Canon days and that was a monster even on the big Canon bodies. I know this is 56mm, not 85mm but I never had the 50mm 1.2 or the Nikon 50mm 1.2 which is a rather small manual focus lens.

Hi, could you compare the AF performance between these two lens on XT1?  Although the 56 is 2-stop faster, but the macro, weight and much cheaper facts of 60 really looks interesting to me, if the AF performance are not Too big.

Re: 56mm 1.2 and 60mm 2.4 macro side by side

Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your comparison. However, because you took the picture from an angle it is really hard to compare as they are both at a difference distance. Can you retake a photo that shows them from the side but such that the camera is at the same height and distance from both lenses?

Thanks again, this is very interesting

One great thing is that we poor folks who can't afford the expensive 56 have the 60mm as a great portrait option--thank you Fuji.    I have gotten to where I don't like the super thin dof (one eye in focus, one eye out) for portraits anyway, and with 2.4 in the 60mm, and great high iso on these x trans cams, it is still capable of great natural light portraits, and when using flash in the stdio I am always up in the 5.6 to F8 area anyway, and the 60 is sharp as a tack as well, so I simply don't need the 56 and might not buy it even if I could afford it.

But in the end, that 60mm is a god send to us poor folks who still want top notch iq for portraits, the macro is just icing on the cake.
