canon fd 500mm on eos

so I just ordered a beat up fd 500mm 4.5 lens it was at a ridiculously low price, I plan to shoot with this lens on my 1d bodies. I use a fd-eos adapter that works great with other fd lenses on my 1d and 1dII, I will use this adapter at first to shoot with the 500mm. but I plan to build an adapter like the edmika or buy one if I can. I just cant seem to find any .75mm around

I want an adapter that gives me the true IQ of the lens, without adding the 1.25x and non L glass.

so has anyone used the eos mount off a broken lens, added a bit of meat to it to create a fd-eos adapter? on my next day off If I can't find the adapter I am looking for I will try some experiments, see what happens and get back to everyone on what I come up with.

thanks a bunch!

Re: canon fd 500mm on eos

Here is an expensive .35mm adapter: CIRRUSADAPTER 0.35MM Canon FD to EF Adapter,

This one is less than $20 and is actually much thinner than the usual FD to EF adapters you see on ebay.

Macro Canon FD Lens to Canon EOS EF Mount Adapter

It is only about 2-3mm thick while most ebay adapters about about 10mm. Because it has no glass it acts like a very short Macro extension tube. It won't focus very far with my 50mm lens, but it might let you focus far enough with your 500mm lens. I would guess maybe 15 feet?

Re: canon fd 500mm on eos

Get yourself an Eos M, and an FD to Eos M adapter (a few dollars from ebay).  This will allow you to check out the full performance of your 500mm lens.  The Eos M has x5 and x10 views to aid focusing manually.  If the Eos M isn't possible for you, other mirror-less CSCs are, and adapters may be available.

I'm using mine to check out my collection of FD lenses.

Re: canon fd 500mm on eos

Thanks everyone for the help on getting my fd 500mm lens up and running on my dslr bodies. I am considering all the suggested options I am researching everything and will get back to this post with the techniques I go with and how they work, I really like the idea of the eos m, I have been eying those cameras for a while now. But I really would prefer to be shooting with my older more familiar bodies. I will get back and add my new ideas and info soon.

thanks again,
