Re: I broke my 22mm lens!

Dropped my 22mm + eos m about a week ago, from about one and a half meter down on to rock hard concrete. The camera casing got a bit skewed so I had to take it apart and bend the casing back to it's normal shape. The 22mm got a dent on the focus ring so now it has some friction when manual focusing.
Except the dent on the focus ring everything works as normal, no damage on the inside of the lens. My copy probably was better glued together, or else it shouldn't have been able to survive that fall.
I too dropped a 22mm f2 while changing lenses. it fell 3.5 feet onto a hard concrete walkway. Except for a ding, it was undamaged optically or mechanically, although I was prepared for the worst as it was a pretty hard fall.
I had an EF-M 15-45 kit lens that obviously had been dropped as the bottom of the front filter ring had a crack in it, but it could still mount filters with a little persuasion. The lens optically was slightly decentered, but this is fairly normal for that lens.
Today I use a lens hood on all lenses except the kit 15-45 and the 22mm f2, either in the standard or the 'storage' position, which provides extra protection if accidentally dropped, and also protection while in the camera bag.
For the EF-M 15-45 kits lens I leave a 49mm to 55mm step up ring on most of the time, and for the 22mm f2 and 32mm f1.4 lenses I leave a 43mm to 55mm step up ring on at all times, which may provide extra protection against dings on the lens' filter ring. I bought set of pinch 55mm lens caps, now it's easy to use a single set of 55mm filters on any lens quickly as needed. Luckily the 32mm f1.4 lens hood will mount right over a 55mm step up ring.
The Sigma 56mm f1.4, Canon EF-M 18-150, and Canon EF-M 11-22 are all 55mm filter thread, so 55mm seems like a good 'standard' filter size. The EF-M 55-200 is 52mm filter size and needs a step-up ring to get to 55mm, but unfortunately its lens hood does not fit over a 52-55mm step up ring so I usually leave the ring off, unless using a filter.
