New Series: Weekly Portrait thread 1
4

We already have a weekly landscape, macro and wildlife thread.

A reply posted by atgard on a post by moimoi inspired me to create this new line of threads.

If it turns out to be successful, I will continue this thread weekly. If not, well at least we'll have tried

Post your images as a reply directly to the thread.

Post comments as replies to the image posts.

Happy shooting!!

Thanks for posting.

I especially love the second one. Very playful pose and well lit exposure.

This was my first attempt at a portrait. 2 umbrellas, snooted hair light from back, and the minolta 50mm f/1.7. Wife was kind enough to sit there while I futzed around.

That is a fine portrait Steve.  Nice natural look, very even skin lighting and nice shine in her hair.

Nice shootin!

Photography is about time, space, expression, and - ultimately - capturing light. This formula may sound easy, but actually capturing the "ideal" photograph is far more complex to accomplish as our own perceptions and responses vary according to each individual. Photography is inherently driven by human subjectivity, but the general feeling is that a superb photograph is widely appreciated, as it commonly depicts a striking and universal concept. I believe this process should be sought by many of us, who deeply enjoy capturing and sharing photographs that embrace life and depict what we are.

Thanks Steve

My most favorite is doing portraits outside with available light and using light modifiers and flash fill.

For inside I have a bunch of 30 year old equipment in my basement but it works great.

Below portrait taken a number of years ago outside with my first digital camera "Sony DSC-R1" and flash fill with Metz 60-CT4 and using a light diffuser. I still have and use the DSC-R1.

I really like this shot because it is so casual.  I also like how the light seems to change from center to right side.

Very Nice.

Re: New Series: Weekly Portrait thread 1

I really like taking candid portrait shots, especially of my wife's young nieces & nephews. She loves pictures of the kids, so it makes it easy for me to justify to her the expense of good glass!

Here's one.....

This untouched JPEG was taken with a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 with HVL43 flash bounced off ceiling.

The 3rd one is really adorable.  Can you share the type of background that are you using. Is it Canvas/Muslin or something else ?

Cheers.

Re: New Series: Weekly Portrait thread 1

Here are a couple.

The first one was shot with a A350 and Sigma 17-70 DC Macro. That was the only lens that I owned at that point.

The last two were shot with the A57 and SAL 85mm. I am not very fond of this lens as I find the color rendering to be different (bluish) compared to other lenses I own.
