Now that my 7D is on the way......

I was thinking about fixing my old T1i    > With a freaking hammer ! LOL   JK

I guess I need to be happy with the 1 out of 10 shots that camera ever took, that were in focus.

Water under the bridge. But anyway.....

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, it would figure if, only now, after messing with that messed up AF system for 4 years, and finally buying a 7D, that I was able to actually fix my old T1i myself ?
Here's where I'm going with this....
In this thread, this forum member talks about fixing his 350D himself, and he posted a link to the tutorial....
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/53151646
Now first off, that ^ was a 350D. Mines a 500D. Next, that tutorial is not in English, so it wouldn't help me if it was for the 500D....
But I just find it very interesting that this guy sent his 350 to Canon twice, then ended up having to fix it himself.... While I sent my 500 to Canon twice, and it still has never focused correctly, or consistently, ever since.
Anyway, is their such a tutorial about fixing the AF on a 500D ? ....in English ?
Even with the 7D on the way, it would be nice to have a properly working back up. And I'm not too worried about "messing up" my 500D... Heck, It's already messed up !
Anyone ?
Thank you,
Fish
I doubt if you'd ever use your T1i after your new(?) 7D arrives.......unless you don't want to change lenses.
Don't be overwhelmed with it's superior AF system since there are many options especially in the Custom Functions menu.....take your time and go through the manual or even better the .pdf online version
Re: Now that my 7D is on the way......
The 350D has a mechanical adjustment (of the mirror), whereas from at least the 450D AF is only adjustable via software in a Canon service centre, so there's no user-adjustability to the AF on your camera. Unless Magic Lantern crack it sometime...
Wilbaw, I hear you on this, and you could be totally right, but it makes no sense to me that "at least" the software needed, to make a camera focus to it's fullest potential, would be made easily available, and totally free ... and I mean ANY darn camera that Canon makes, from cheapies on up !
Sure, I can see where Canon would like to make $$$ wherever they can.... but I think they would make the most $ {and do the most good for their reputation} with the most cameras that focus well. No ?
I know... I know....
But I don't need a 1.15 lb  paperweight
What I'd really like to have for my backup, would be a 5D MkII Funny thing about that, is that I'm sure I'd use the 7D more
Peace,
Fish
Well, it is what the Canon service centre in Sydney told me when they calibrated by 450D.
Not if the software is integrated with special hardware (like a big optical test bench thing, for instance)...
We cannot know the mind of Canon.
Re: Now that my 7D is on the way......
Okay, yea... I guess when you include "hardware" (like test bench and such) maybe...
But I mean, even just having a simple adjustment for micro-focus, like several Canon cameras, even some of the cheaper ones they have made, in the past, would seem to be the smartest choice to me...
But I agree, you never know what Canon's thinking.... + I might be kind of biased about this, after messing with a mis-focusing camera for 4 years ! I guess if every Canon camera I ever had, focused spot on, right out of the box, it might not seem like a big deal to me, to be able to fine tune the focus by myself......
take this time to download the 7D manual and read it.  I have a feeling once the 7D hits your doorstep, your not gonna be looking at the T1i that much anymore :).
