Re: Kingfishers - The laughing one and the normal one!

Those are interesting birds and our local kingfishers are not quite as colorful...  Nice pictures.

Re: Australian Raptors

Very nice pictures and I always enjoy the story that goes with them..  I can sympathize with your problems with the sky as here in N AL USA we often have months with varying depth of clouds in the winter providing changing shadowless light.  In summer the water vapor often provides an almost white sky leading to "high key" pictures of birds and dragon flies.....

Re: My Usual Snapz!

Nice.. I like your ducks.. We're supposed to have wood ducks around here but I've never seen one... Maybe I need to go a little deeper into the woods... They must be very shy...

Having an absolute blast these little guys, consuming the nectar from our flowering gum tree while making a serious mess in the interim.

Hi Richard

I hate to repeat what others have said before me but yes, they are terrific shots... as usual.

I particularly like numbers 2, 4 and 5.

I have a question for you that I'm not sure you touched on yet, if I may. Have you experimented at all with the S-SI2 setting when taking pictures like #5? Or are you keeping your E-M1 set to S-IS1 all the time? If you have used S-IS2 (or even S-IS3 or S-IS AUTO), have you noticed any improvement over the S-IS1 setting? Thanks ahead for your response.

his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two,
and I know it was not that blow that did it,
but all that had gone before.'

cormorant yoga

This pose doesn't look quite right

better

Not sure what version of cormorant it is.  Double Crested?  Brandt's?

I think the bird is really black, but the green color is from refraction.

Re: This Week’s Birds

nice work Richard.

The E-5 shots stand up well against the M1.

The Stilt + Egret shot is my favorite

From South Florida

The other day I dropped in to Wakodahatchee Wetlands. The water level there and also in many other wetlands has been high, causing wading birds such as Egrets, Herons and Storks to change their nesting sites and feeding areas. The high water scatters their food sources and causes the birds some distress.

Here are a few images created with the E-M1 and the m75-300mm lens, all at ISO 400.

Rare Leucistic Female Common Grackle. 1/200, f/6.7, EV-0.3, 300mm.

This my first attempt at BIF with this camera/lens combo. The bird image is a bit soft as I was photographing some other birds and was set at S-AF.

Great White Egret in Breeding Plumsge with nesting material. 1/3200, f/5.4, EV-1.3, 124mm.

My second attempt at BIF and the same comments apply.

Great White Egret in Breeding Plumage with Stick for Nest. 1/3200, f/5.4, EV-1.3, 124mm.

Great White Egret in Breeding Plumage.1/2500, f/5.4, EV-1.3, 124mm

Green Heron with a tid-bit for lunch just before sunset.1/50, f/6.3, EV0.3, 156mm.

Great Blue Heron in Nest with Eggs. 1/2000, f/6.0, EV0.7, 187mm.
