NX to K adapter

I just received an adapter for my pentax lenses so that I can fit them on NX300. It is this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200955937026?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

They mention:

Fit all Samsung NX mount Camera (Compatible with NX10, NX5, etc.)

I have the following problems.

All my 13 K-mount lenses have a small play when fitted on the adapter. I can even hear a sound (click--clack) when I gently move the camera-adapter-lens combination

The lens is not recognized by the camera

Focus peaking can not be enabled

The adapter does not lock in the 12:00 clock position, but a few degree after. Also, the adapter thickness various 0.12mm along its diameter. A friend with a NX100 uses the same model with success.

Any thoughts? Sth I missed in the camera menu or the listing on ebay?

Re: NX to K adapter

There is a problem with this cheap adapters and NX300.

If you look at the images on this site

http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2013/05/samsung-nx300-hands-on-realistic-3d-photos-and-videos-from-one-lens/

you will see that there is a pin at the bottom left side of the camera body. The NX300 seems to expect it to be pressed in more deeply than previous NX models.

Have a look at the lens bayonet on this page, you'll see that it is the same hight like the electrical contacts. On the ebay page you can see in the third image (under description) that there is a half mm space on the lens bayonet to the three "wings". They ar thinner. Too thin for NX300.

I have tried three different Minolta-NX adapter, all with the same problem

Samsung original one (NX-PK) works perfectly but it is costly.

Thanks a lot for the answer xorgh. They should not say for all Samsung camera then.

Does any know if the following woks on NX300 and if it has good-tight fit with K-lenses?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIWI-Fotos-KF-1031-Pentax-DA-Lens-Adapter-to-Samsung-NX-Camera-/251326188065?pt=US_Lens_Adapters_Mounts_Tubes&hash=item3a84354a21

Or suggest another model that has been tested to work OK on NX300. The original one indeed costs a lot.

Re: NX to K adapter

all NX cameras have the same mount specs so any adaptor works with any NX.

The issue is that those low budget ones often have issues with tolerances and mechanical quality so that adapter and camera mount are not plain any hence show some movements that results in the sound you hear (and in worst case do not release this small know mentioned, that the camera requires to be moved down to identify a lens attached)

I would guess that 1 out of 10 low price adapters are faulty....

EDIT: I have two KIWI adptors where one is perfect (OM) and the other (MD) fits ok to release the knob but is still not 100% tight..

I have actually been very pleased with the Fotodiox adapters (I have them for Canon EF and FD lenses to NX), but they unfortunately don't make a K to NX adapter. The Kiwi one is probably where I would bet my money if I was for a K to NX adapter.

If you can buy from the UK site this is the cheapest one I saw with a quick look: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-PENTAX-K-PK-LENS-TO-SAMSUNG-NX5-NX200-NX20-NX300-NX-MOUNT-ADAPTER-APERTURE-/310786685424?pt=UK_Photography_CameraLenses_Lens_caps_hoods_adaptors_ET&hash=item485c5479f0

Then probably this one:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PENTAX-K-PK-LENS-TO-SAMSUNG-NX5-NX200-NX20-NX300-NX-MOUNT-ADAPTER-APERTURE-/310786681289?pt=US_Lens_Adapters_Mounts_Tubes&hash=item485c5469c9

Both should be the same product as you linked.  I thought this Kiwi one used to be cheaper though, but maybe I'm imagining things.

A rule of thumb, IMO

Buy domestic (on eBay). You may pay a couple of bucks over HK imports, but you can return/refund with ease. Amazon also has an easy return-refund process but their selection is smaller and more expensive.

I don't think I'd ever pay more than $15 or so for an adapter, and haven't. The ones I've purchased, from my NX100/200/300 cameras: Konica, M42, T-Mount, Nikon AI-S.

Kiwi is pretty solid, as is Rainbow Imaging, but keep in mind they're all Chinese made and do pretty much the same thing with the same components. I've yet to have one just flat out not fit or work. Some require a bit extra torque to 'click' lock to mount, or have a bit of play, though.

thank you all for your kind response.

Leason learned. Ask before buying:)

Seller responded to my question. Hopefully he will replace the product.

Cheers.

Re: A rule of thumb, IMO

The seller refunded the initial adapter. I ordered the kiwi photos one with the aperture control, which I received just yesterday (thanks ttbek for your link). This one is very nice.

This new adapter is constructed a lot better. Both the materials and the assembly are much finer with less variations in the thickness of the adapter (0.04 vs 0.12mm). The adapter is recognized on the camera and I tested a couple of my lenses and they work just fine. The aperture control is as tight as it should be and it seems a good tool for video as it is silent. I am thinking of adding a white dot on the aperure control ring as I can not tell if have accidentally moved it from wide open or not.

Thank you all for your input.

Glad to be of help ^_^.  Also good to know that it worked out for you in case I end up with any K mount lenses.

I might have to order one of those Kiwi Photos ones as well, not happy with my other one.  Sometimes says "no lens attached" if I don't hold it just right
