Hoping I've bagged a bargain!
I just couldn't resist at £1079 for a D600 + 24-85mm VR from John Lewis.
I say 'hope' because I'm nervous about my camera having the notorious oil splatter problem but at that price I thought it was worth the risk, plus it's a UK spec so covered by Nikon UK.
Don't worry, just enjoy the camera and tAke lots of pictures

John Lewis is a good store, I think you have a good deal! Enjoy your your camera.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day!
I had been contemplating a new camera from my D90 and have been doing a bit of research. I hadn't really thought of going full frame but thought I'd have a look in this section of the forum and seen the offer you got (I am also in the UK) It does seem a good price considering the camera alone is selling for more than £1,300 on amazon.co.uk. Decision time for me!

Go for the 610, don't really want to live with hope and pray all the time, D600 - not worth the risk - may be OK for now but who knows what would happen in a few years time - unless you are not planning to keep the camera for more than a couple of years. Resale value will surely suffer regardless
It's a bargain, but it's a low quality kit. Don't worry about oil spots, they are easily cleaned with cotton tip and gentle moist blow...worry about the camera performance and lens distortions. IMHO, only ISO performance works fine in that kit.
My D600 has been immune to the splatter syndrome, so I, personally, wouldn't be too worried. It's a great body, so enjoy!
Keep us posted, & please be sure to share some of your pics too.
well, this is the first thread where someone has said it's a low-quality kit. amazing the comments people make. it's entry level full frame. no question. the af spread is not as wide as some folks need. if u get the oil/dust issue (i sure did), get the copper hill cleaning kit and check/clean as needed. u'll get good at it. for the price, it's a great body.
Stunning deal, you can't go wrong at that price. I'm sure I've read somewhere (no doubt on here) that people are taking the oil prob back to nikon who now have a permanent cure.
