Same tree from two different vantage points

I rather like the look of this tree and have photographed it quite a lot

Some Slideshows of a wee bit of my work, more to be added if I ever sort out my music rights issues.

Re: Winter

nothing can beat a clear view in the mountains on a sunny day in winter. Which mountains do we see in the background? Where did you take this?

Nice images. The castle looks familiar (Monty Python and the Holy Grail?).

Sunset after a recent storm
1

Was reading the paper after getting home from work, looked out the window and thought, "that's nice a nice sunset". Had to hurry to get the camera and didn't have time to get the tripod as the lighting was changing fairly fast. Played with it in LR4. Haven't really played with sharpening much, but I did on this one. Too much sharpening?

No, I do not see too much sharpening, there is no contour around the mountains edges. Is your home that high, or are those low mountains? I would think how you get up and down every day around there. Excellent capture!

an editorial entry - sort of about conservation

I took a photo last summer of an old tree that I ran across in the forest surrounding the ruins of the antebellum mansion Windsor in south Mississippi. I went back to reshoot the wonderful old sentinel that has stood for multiple centuries, has seen war & disasters of all types. When I got there, I found that the forest had been clearcut, except for this tree, which though spared, now looks very forlorn.

Re: Thank you, wow!

Thanks for the comments. I really haven't taken the time to really learn Lightroom., so it's nice to get tips from other folks. It seems that I have too many other things that need my attention to spend the necessary the time to learn Lightroom (or I'm just lazy:-)).

I live about 3km from the base of the mountains, so I'm not actually n the mountains. I used the kit 40-150mm (which I hardly ever use) so that my neighbor's tree wouldn't be in the frame and I'd get the light on the rock faces.

This WA shot gives a better idea of of how far away I am. This is about a 10min walk from my house on National Forest land.

The Sandia mountains are about 3300m high and I'm about 3km from their base at about 1700m. The Rio Grande river valley is another 3km away and is about 1500m. There are quite a few runners and cyclists who come to the Albuquerque/Santa Fe, New Mexico area to train at high altitude
