Re: Bees

what is this 100mm stuff...get in there with the 35ltd macro...OK, I'd be out there at 180mm instead.

but love the shots you are just so good with flora shots.  Flowers especially.

I find bees such interesting creatures even if they can kill me.  So I don't vaporize them and they don't sting me when I don't have an epi-pen handy.

Great stuff Dean ...............

... these look great at 100% - the detail is just amazing - specks of pollen dust and all. Were they hand held? What about lighting? I'm thinking a macro lens might be my next purchase.

Re: Bees

LOL actually Breck I'm like you puff up when I get stung, it would be serious if I swallowed one!

Glad you liked the shots.

Re: Great stuff Dean ...............

Thanks Mike, yes it was the 100wr and ringflash, works very well, starting to get the hang of it. Balancing the ambient light and flash is the trick - getting there.

Re: Bees

Hey, the two in the first image look like twins!

Seriously though, these are very nice. I love the detail and the lighting seems to have worked well. Those colors are very pleasing too; it all fits together well.

Thanks for posting.

Bees from the same honeybee colony are twins (at least sisters).

Re: Bees

Hi Dean, I can appreciate your efforts very much as I spent lots of time getting images to show the tongue (drinking tube) in the act of taking nectar - for use in biology teaching. I'll bet your concentration needed a rest after this session.Well done and with great detail.

Very nice work Dean. Great colors. Are the flowers in the Composite family?

Nice shots with great K5IIs detail - the ring flash seems to working well for you, Dean.

Good catches--but the flash makes the images a bit harsh.

Re: Bees

Thank you donla, I have only managed to get the tongue on probably 1 in every 100 shots and that was accidental, it would take a lot of effort to purposely achieve such a shot.

Re: Bees

Great shots Dean !

All beautifully sharp and colorful, the last one surprised me because of it's composition but i really like the more habitat shot of that shot.

Thanks Nic, these are Galardia grandiflora and I don't think they are in the composite family?
