NEX-7, 500mm and what else but flying gadgets ;-)
5

Had some nice warm fine days so out and about of course. NEX-7 and Canon FD 500 F/4.5L and even threw the 1.4x TC on for a few. Left the 800mm at home which I should have taken anyway.

The Sacred Kingfishers are starting to show up more now. Late afternoon sun

Off and about for a feed. Late afternoon sun again. Same KF as above.

Kingfisher in overcast conditions. The colours change on these all the time depending on the lighting conditions.

Black swans on the move

Black swans catching up from behind

Canada geese blast through. Breeding here too well, same as the black swans.

Caspian Tern looking for a fish

Paradise duck, female this one.

Kingfisher getting ready for take off. Late in the afternoon again.

Overcast and cloudy this day with the KF

All the best folks.

Danny.

Once again, Danny, WOW!  I do envy you your colorful birds since we have so few here.  The ones over the water are especially nice and what a gorgeous bird the KF is -- send me some!

Ya, our native birds are brown/gray/black.

Always some great shots from you. You've mastered the long lens.

Thanks Peter. Most of them are comfortable with me now. If I walk across the estuary to another spot with Kingfisher, I can't even get within 300 meters of them mate. Different KF and they are not use to me.

So its been well worth the time spent on this spot to get this close to them without them worrying about me. Now I can get to around 12 meters from them on a good day, 20 meters on a bad day. Min focus with the 800mm is 13 meters, with the 500 its a lot closer.

All the best Peter and that could well be a young one looking at the rough feathers on it.

Danny.

Danny,

We never get enough of those KF's . . . they have to have more "character" than almost any bird we know.  Just wonderful to see.

Thanks for posting and keep them coming . . .

Fantastic pictures there again, Danny! My favorite is the picture with three Canada gees flying above the water - but all are great! All the best, and thanks for sharing! Dirk

Thanks, Danny. Your bird photos and the beauty that surrounds them wafts up here through the waves of the internet, to warm us up and cheer us on. We are in the midst a brutal winter. Your proliferating Canada Geese are the snowbirds; our goodwill ambassadors, perhaps. Good to hear they are doing well.

Please don't stop; send more!

Cheers,

Steve

Wow Danny, thanks that you're  still posting.   The forums gone slightly thin with good photography.  You seem to have a great  affinity with your subject.  Are you watching them or are they watching you.  I'd love to see a photo of you with a mug of coffee taken by NZKingfisher.  Take it easy.  Cheers John

Lovely birds as to be expected - but nice light too - looks like a fine day down there.  Glad to see another of the few birds we seem to share - caspian terns!  There don't seem to be too many birds which are exactly the same between our very distant homes, so it's neat to see when one does appear to be very much the same, and amazing to think these birds have spread around the globe so successfully.
