Canon EF 16-35/2.8L II - Hard Focus on Infinity When in Wide 16mm

aybe you guys can give me some adivce on this one

I have this amazing lens with my 5D mk3, but lately I noticed becoming very hard to focus on infinity when in the wide side (16mm). Focusing close objects works perfectly.

The lens when auto focusing a distant object like a mountain or something far then some meters, passes by by the infinity mark and stay there stucked so the camera doesn't shoot. I can manual focus on infinity and take the shot perfectly.

With others lens this doesn't happens. I tested with my 40mm, 50mm and the 24-105mm.

What is going on with this lens, or might be the camera?

Thanks in advance

The lens should not get stuck at infinity--I think your lens needs to be repaired.

Most lenses--especially telephotos--focus "beyond infinity." It is a technical feature for lenses to compensate for the lens expanding or contracting in extreme temperatures.

Just to clarify, the lens trying to focus goes beyond infinity, but it never gets the focus and stops the camera from taking the picture. If I focus on a closer subject click, then go to the farest view then I can take the picture.

I might take the lens to a Canon service. Just trying to make sure it's not a camera problem.

Thanks

Your lens should not be doing this. Return it or get it repaired.

No, that is a lens problem. Good luck!
