Some vintage E-1 WWII shots.

I think VJ day preceded the Olympus E-1...It must have been an air-show, but these shots go way back!

and here is a modern P-51 shot taken with the E-5.

Re: Fighting in the skies - Post yours

Nice idea for a thread, Thane - it's already attracted too many great shots to comment on.

These are two very different sets of aircraft I liked. The first is of a replica Sopwith Pup at the Owls Head Transportation Museum (in Maine), taken in 2010. The second is the veteran Lancaster G-George in a static display at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.

Those first two shots are really great! How authentic was the Fokker DR1? It certainly looks nice.

A few from the dark side!

I've seen some Sony shots in this thread, so I may as well add some Canon stuff!

This was the very type of photography that I switched systems for. Everyone's needs are different, but for me, it was the best thing I could have done

Airshows

A few from the archives, great leaps through history of fighting planes

Paris airshow 2009:

The famous Red Baron, a pity the plastic was in the way

Lethbridge 2008 Canada:

Replicas of Japanese planes (not exact but lpoks good)  used in the film Tora Tora Tora

And again the Paris airshow but now 2013

First display in the west, Sukhoi SU-35S, an amazing plane making here a very short turn.

Re: Fighting in the skies - Post yours

Jeez, you guys have me wanting to go to an airshow. Ah well. Couple weekends ago was California's shortest airshow--about thirty seconds while these two flew over my kid's soccer match. Only looked because the sound was unique; the googles suggest they're T-6s, but heck if I know.

Looking at your shots, one either needs tremendous lenses or tremendous access. This is neither.

E-5+ZD150+EC14

Seeing the topic line I though of this--another lousy shot (they were far off) but gen-you-wine fighting in the skies. No love lost between these two.

IIRC E-30+50-200

Cheers,

Rick

Like the airplane shots Ben.  Not sure how they morphed into tanks and artillery.

Yeah, T-6s.  The type is common overhead around me, perhaps even including the pair interfering in your otherwise fascinating study of soccer field night lights.

To all pic posters: Well done on fine shots overall.

I'm not sure of the details of that one but it does look really good. New Zealand has some very talented aero restorer craftsmen check out this business if you haven't already as just one example http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/node

Where I live we have the Croydon Aircraft Company just a few miles away and if you want a new or restored Tiger Moth or a Beechcraft Staggerwing restoration or many other wood and fabric aircraft they will do it for you - excellent workshop to visit and they have a museum too, open days coming up soon. The Rodger K steam engine and traction engines I posted in a thread a month or so ago were taken there.
