That's the 35mm gang

Nikon users felt abandoned with problems of D600 and D800. but agree on point that pro class APS sensor will do very good in my opinion if brand preference is out of picture. stigma of Samsung as electronics only company is big hurdle.

Check out the Pro DX forum.  Those people have felt abandoned by Nikon because a D400 never materialized along with the D4.  Some of them eventually bought D7100 or D600 because they did not want to leave their Nikon lenses, not because Nikon is making the camera that they want.  The Pentax K3 is just about everything they want in a Nikon D400, and would consider switching if Pentax had more telephoto and long zoom options.  There's room on the market for a high performance APS-C, but Pentax (or Samsung) has to carefully read who those customers are.  They want the performance of a D4, but don't want the extra weight (in body and lens) and price of a flagship 35mm.  The D600 makes too many sacrifices to meet the low price.  Thom Hogan gave a description in his blog recently of examples of possible high performance APS-C customers.

I think agree with you. key component is pro level performance body with available telephoto lens. if Samsung come out with 300mm f2.8 lens or with 135mm f2, those are very attractive offer and difficult to ignore. 50-200 f2.8 is attractive also especially if price correctly.

Samsung needs people like me to be happy. I know that sounds wildly egotistical and it might be.

But I host photowalks, I go on photowalks. I'm a walking advertisement. The issue is people have heard from me the same thing for 2 years... I love the camera it's great.. when it isn't locking up.. or I get asked did you get that shot.. and I say no I had to take the battery out... or they say hey this group is looking for someone to shoot their event and I have to say "well so and so would be great, I don't have the right lens because Samsung doesn't make it"

If I can pick up a NX30, and I can say, I got that shot, or the WiFi is working great, I love this lens, ya I'd love to shoot that... hey check this out, it's so handy. The System is really maturing. It is good for Samsung.

People are always fascinated until they see me curse the NX20

So honestly the NX30 needs to be the Camera. It's got to be on par with the D7100 and 70D in all but it's Weather Sealing

it really needs to that level. I think it if it lives up to it's spec's it may just do it, and might actually over take it. If you combine that with lens' coming out.. well that will help entice people and if NX users can then show that the camera can do all and offer a travel body with the same mount like the NX2000 that could be the tipping point.

And that is what they need to do they need to try to entice Crop shooters to the NX system. More and more the Crop Sensor is fully capable of work previous held by Full Frame if only because of the Low light performance.
Samsung isn't missing much at this point if the NX30 lives up to the theory and stats that has been shown.

Re: Estimation about Samsung 16-50mm f2-2.8 price

Samsung is not an established brand in photogrphy. Many who shoot with NX have purchased it at a discounted price, others use Semsung as a second brand. Samsung community is small, and rather diverse. Some lenses are exceptional (85, 30), luckily we can say there is no serious issue with lens quality Samsung produces.

The new 2-2,8 one will not be cheap at 1300 EUR/1300USD. If I would be a Samsung decision maker, I would not keep price of this lens high, as it could sell the whole NX lineup and could build massive interest and generate lots of conquests much better than any marketing campaign.

If price could go as deep as 800, then many would seriosly consider to invest into Samsung, and also sales of recent NX bodies would rocket as 2-2,8 lens would attract many.

This lens can sell NX system, but NX is not strong enough to sell this lens @ 1300.

Time to wake up and do something bold, that pulls the Samsung brand together in photograpy circles, otherwise it will stay a niche, expotic brand.

I think price of 16-50mm f/2-2.8 is fair, in full frame equivalent this is 24-75mm f/3-4.2 equivalent or so (lets just say f/2.8 to 4). Canon 24-70mm f/4L is $1500 and Sony 24-70mm f/4 is $1200, and neither is effectively as large of aperture, or if you look at APS-C equivalent lenses by Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony it is in the same range, but again, a stop larger aperture at the wide end.

As I said in my other post, I don't think Samsung is in any kind of position to price high. I believe the brand in a serious danger of going the way of the dodo, if they do not get more market recognition and sales soon. As far as equivalent lenses go, you can get the excellent Tamron SP 24-70/2.8 for around $900 and it's effective aperture is larger than the Samsung 16-50's. You can get the Canon 24-105/4L for even less and it's got equivalent aperture in the tele-end and a much wider focal length range.

But at the same time I don't really believe the 16-50mm f/2-2.8 is marketed only at current users (most of which are unwilling to pay much since they got their cameras discounted). If they can market it successfully and get people cross shopping other brands (and the larger aperture might help catch attention) they can ask more than they have historically.

I think a lot depends on what they do with their top end camera too. If they make it better spec wise than many competitors they can ask what they want for it. Sony has shown this with cameras like NEX 7 and A7 which are really very expensive for what they are.

Samsung hasn't been able to get much for many of their cameras as they aren't quite at the level of their competitors in many cases, and historically a lack of marketing, so they don't generate the same level of interest as say a Sony A7 or NEX 7 when they were released. That interest can generate sales. The Sony 16-50mm f/2-2.8 is a very interesting lens. The NX30 is neat, and priced better than NX20, but doesn't generate the same level of interest (I don't think). I really want to see what their high end body is

The question I ask is has high end APS-C lost its interest? Even if Samsung comes out with a killer APS-C body, is it going to compete with the full frame cameras now?

Eric

I think the Samsung NX 16-50mm F2.0-2.8 will probably price around $699~$799.

As for Samsung killer spec APS-C camera able to compete with FF camera? I don't think so.

Not that they are lack of publicity, marketing even after they merged their imaging division into mobile division which going to make something significant, but the lack of market recognition simply put Samsung brand camera into Canikon camera shadows.

It's going to take Samsung another 2~4 years of continue stronger efforts in digital camera development before they could really stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Canikon. Thing not easily change overnight or many nights after, just like Rome wasn't built in a day, at least in imaging/camera market.

Probably by the time of NX500, NX40 or NX2, Samsung brand cameras would excel and have sustainable market recognition which make them stand side-by-side with Canikon.

With this lens, I think so. What we have now? A7 with 28-70 f/3.5-5.6 and 24-70 f/4 comes soon. Yep. An NX with 16-50 2-2.8 (approx.equiv. 24-75 2.8-4) seems for me to be a better choice. Size and weight should be on par.
