Ben - are you aware that both Fuji and Oly are cheating on ISO by 2/3EV? You can check it on DXo, on samples from imaging resource (where ISO 1600 and above require significantly longer exposure on the same aperture and studio light conditions) and also yourself - set the same iso and aperture in aperture priority and check the time set by camera.

The 18-55 OIS won't help, because you shoot moving subjects. 30mm/2 or 45mm/1.8 would help but not by much.

I'm going to disagree with you right here those two lenses help tremendously, even for moving subjects. It might not seem like it at first, because maybe you're thinking that well, the lower f-stop will help with the brightness, but then shutter speed is still pretty low. But consider shooting with flash right, with f/2 you're able to get quite a lot more brightness out of even the kit flash. It's not perfect of course (shallower DOF) but you can partially offset this by moving back a bit more (due to the greater brightness). I agree with your best solution (or something like that, maybe waiting for the new flash, or maybe one of the more moderate flashes would be sufficient for Dave

whoops, Dave is in this thread, but he didn't start this one, lol.

), I just think you're underrating the difference those faster lenses make.

The best solution would be GN42 flash with Gary Fong Cloud diffuser. A bit too big for a small camera, but it will give you excellent results at low ISO.

Opposite of my experience.

I've had a relatively easy time removing chroma noise from NX photos. I have not yet worked with NX300 RAW, but NX100 and 200 files were very receptive, most especially the 200. Very little bumping of the Chroma NR slider is required. Luma grain is more prevalent and lossy when removed, so I usually leave it (regardless of the camera). I prefer grain with detail to loss of detail and no grain.

There's also Nik suite for NR. Quite effective, as is DxO Optics.

Anyway, looking at DPR comparisons (I wish we had the old test scene, but alas), the NX300 ISO-3200 noise characteristic appears to be a bit behind a D7100 or D5300 and a noticeably ahead of the D3200, so I wouldn't say it's markedly inferior to its APS-C brethren. DxO puts it somewhat ahead of the sensors in the NEX-C/F3, SLT-A57/A58 and Fuji X100, for example.

Re: Opposite of my experience.

lowlight performance lag a bit and I would say in between or average with current APS-C camera offer. not poor in my opinion but good enough. what impress me is jpeg engine of NX300 at high iso. not as dirty as older gen nx camera. red chroma and yellow is eliminated and show more detail than have to clean pictures in raw.

Nope, manual only, part of why it's so cheap. It's a much easier manual than even with the native lenses though because it is an old lens designed to be used this way. That is, the focus ring is super smooth. With the focus peaking on the NX300 it is really much easier to use than one might at first think.

Apologize for bumping an old thread, but was just wondering,

does Focus Peaking on the NX300 work with manual lenses from other manufacturers (using adapter)?
