NX has a very 'variable' style

I've been thinking about this for quite some time.

What's the style of nx cameras? For the xx models, the reply is easy. Mini dslr style for nx5/10/11/20, dslr style for galaxy nx/nx30 (not mini anymore with that big grip and bigger body).

This style is VERY different from that of xxx and xxxx models. They don't have any 'family feeling' among them, nor with the mentioned bigger models. Nx300 is retro, nx200/210 is similar to older samsung p&s, nx100 is very original and stylish, nx1000/1100 are plasticky and not very distinguishable, nx2000 looks like a galaxy cam.

Why is this, for you?

I think they're *aiming* for:

  • "professional" - NXxx line (NX30 is bigger, because bigger = professional, right?!). Fortunately a EVF and lots of manual controls too, because buttons and stuff are professional.
  • "smart" - NXxxx line (i.e. fashionable, cool, trendy, whatever you want to call it). No EVF because no Korean model would ever hold a camera up to her eye to shoot pictures - too much risk of ruining the eyeliner.
  • "affordable quality" - NXxxxx line - i.e. plastic. Fortunately Samsung are a bit short on UI designers (they're all off re-inventing samsungized versions of google play apps) so no features have actually been removed from this line.

(only being slightly sarcastic here....)

This is why I don't thing you're ever going to get the retro rangefinder styling you'd like, I can't really see how it would fit into how they see their target audience. I personally like the NXxx line (although no bigger than is necessary, please), and I think the NXxxxx line is pretty good value and I've recommended it to friends, but the whole NX range is not exactly coherent...

One lineage is shaped like a dslr and one like a compact. Glad to demystify the range. Don't mention it, please.
