NX1100 owner (am I the only one?)

Hi everyone.  I've had my NX1100 with the 20-50mm lens for a couple of months now because of a great deal at Adorama, and am just now learning about non-auto photography.  I chose mirrorless because I had a dlsr briefly, but didn't learn how to use it properly because it was so big I mostly left it at home.  I chose the Samsung because of the APS-C sensor and the reviews of their cameras and lenses.

I don't see a lot of NX1100 owners posting, so... Are there any others out there?  I'm pretty happy so far with mine (being a novice), and just ordered the 30mm prime yesterday from B&H.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what that will do at concerts and street photography.  I"m hoping the F2.0 will help in low light.

I mostly wanted to post and say hello, but would love to hear from other NX1100 owners.  Thanks for having me.

welcome to the forum. Am sure you will get a lot of user feedback here as time goes on. As an owner of an earlier nx200 camera, you have made a fine purchase with the nx1100 (they usually provide a great price/performance ratio) and complimented it with a brilliant little pancake. I'll be man enough an step up to the plate an say, I've been lazy posting photos...but that simply because Ive been too lazy to go outside lately. So?

If you have any questions, Dave Gibbs is the expert, I think he's asked more questions here than everyone put together

Watch out for Taffy, the moderator carries a large discipline stick....its the butt end of a misbehaving camera from 1973. If you annoy him too much he may threaten to take a photo of you with it, pp it and post it on youtube.

I enjoy photography as a hobby and have been participating and learning from people here for some time.

You arrived at a time when Samsung has just confirmed release of new products for 2014, and emotions are running high...heh

Great post !

Welcome, ConcertPhotog !

Not many discussions here about NX1000, NX1100 or NX2000 (allthough these are the modrls I've seen the modest in the real world). People here mainly discuss what NX300/NX30 should have been and what NX-R/NX-F1/NX400/NX40 should be. Everyone here would like Samsung to notice him/her and hire him/her, either as an engineer or as a marketing expert.

Where are the other NX1100 owners ? Probably out, taking good pictures and sharing them

Welcome! nx1100≈nx1000+lightroom. It seems even their firmware is the same (i am not sure). So you can treat youself as a nx1000 user and you are absolutely not the only one.~

Re: NX1100 owner (am I the only one?)

You're not the only one - I also am a new NX1100 owner.  It was the price/performance ratio which got me. B&H had a two-day overlap in offers - the camera in black with the 20-50 kit lens for $299 and the 50-200 lens for an additional $130.  So far I'm pretty happy with the choice.

I do a lot of inside photos of group gatherings, paired with outside action shots as I belong to the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and am my local camp's voluntary photographer.  Many of our camp members do reenacting and / or participate in memorial services, parades, etc.

The outside stuff is pretty easy, but the inside shots can be challenging as I try not to use a flash. It distracts from the occation and makes my subjects pose more formally.  I have not yet upgraded to one of the faster lenses.  I'm pushing the kit 20-50 mm, shooting in shutter-preferred mode at 1/125 (as my subjects are moving), and the results are fair to ok, but I would appreciate tips from the group here on better indoor candid shots.

I find the 50-200 ok, but have not used it much yet - the spring weather will bring more opportunity to use it, I know.

I'll probably need / want a pancake lens for the indoor work, based on what I read here.  I think I just need to use the camera a bit more to know which one will be appropriate for my needs.  Input there is welcome as well.

Good to see such an active community on line re the Samsung cameras. It helped me to read, and to understand, and was a key to my decision to buy a NX.

For the indoor work, one of the faster pancakes might really make for better indoor shooting with their wider apertures than the 20-50mm. These faster lenses can help with achieving lower ISO's too. And if your not shooting raw on those indoor shots, the ooc jpg's may struggle with the different types of indoor lighting. With raw you can work the WB and lift shadows better when needed. Those indoor shots may just need some post-processing to bring them to life.

BTW the 20-50 I'm told is a slower focusing lens. And for me the 16, 20 & 45mm are very fast, which can be a plus under dimmer indoor lighting; and they work nicely for indoor movies too.

Good luck and have fun.
