RX100 II control ring stiffer?

I recently purchased an RX100 II to replace my RX100, which I plan to sell. I notice the control ring on the new model is significantly stiffer (i.e., harder to turn) than on the RX100. Is that normal?

I did not have the 1st version to compare but my rx100ii is indeed a little stiff to turn. I don't mind it though and preferred it that way.

Mine was too. Bothered me enough that I compared it to the demo models in the local store, which were not stiff at all. Mine didn't loosen up after a few weeks, so I finally sat down and methodically gave it a extended series of turns. That worked, but I don't feel comfortable recommending it to anyone else.

It seems logical that whether X number of turns are applied over the space of an hour or over the space of several weeks/months, either way the result should be the same. So presumably you could just tough it out until it loosens up from normal use.

Thanks for the detailed response. It doesn't really bother me that much, so I'll live with it till it loosens up of its own accord. Was just curious if maybe my model was defective, but looks like it's normal.
