Sony E PZ 18-105mm or Sony E 16-70mm f/4 ZA ??

opinions please:

I have been saving for the 16 - 70 lens BUT the 18 - 105 appears ready to ship.

My main interest, I think, is IQ. How much different are these two lenses, if

any. The 16 - 70 is a Zeiss and the 18 - 105 is a Sony "G". Are these about

the same, or is one a bit better?

Those of you who have experience with zeiss and the "G" series, please give

your thoughts.

p.s. I really like that the 18 - 105 in an internal zoom.

thanks

I don't think enough information is out to answer the IQ question so we can only guess.    My guess is that the 16-70 will be better for obvious reasons...   less range, Zeiss lens, price, etc.    But we should start seeing reviews and sample images soon.   I don't think it will matter to me since I prefer the size of the 16-70.

18-105G pros over 16-70Z
Wider Range (more tele buts slightly lower wideangle)
Cheaper ($600 vs $1000). In fact one could get 18-105G plus 35/1.8 for the price of 16-70/4.
Power Zoom (useful for video)

Cons
Larger
Power Zoom (although can be operated manually, not mechanical)

The best thing for you to do as you are so curious would be to buy both lenses and do us the favor of sharing your own test results.

How about it? It's only money after all. I think many around here would like to know your answer.

Go for it then!

16-70 is a beautiful lens, relatively sharp, small and compact, good range on APS-C.

I think you will regret getting the 18-105, because it's big, unless you are into video, then it would be different story.

I think these two lens are not meant to compete with each other, they are different purpose and you should see what you need it for.

I am going for the G. I like the longer FL and the inner zoom. I also find that the Zeiss is too expensive. As for the size, the G is no bigger than many SLR lenses for APS-C. It just looks big on a small NEX body. I accept that a good zoom lens for big sensor with that FL cannot possibly be small. And I have primes for when I want it to be smaller. It is always a compromise.
