gx7 flash setting is grayed out

I just got a new black gx7 today and charged the battery and set it up the way I thought I wanted it, for example I set it to raw and electronic shutter, etc.  I then went to the menu/rec/flash and found that it was grayed out.  I thought perhaps the flash had to be in the up position but that didn't work either.  I reset the camera to default shipped settings and the flash was still grayed out as was the setting for turning on the electronic shutter.  The manual doesn't deal with this so I need some help.  What am I doing incorrectly?  TIA.

Make sure youre not on silent mode. Flash doesn't work on silent.

You are not doing anything incorrectly. As far as I know flash is not an option with an electronic shutter so it can not be specified in the menu. You might want to read what is at this link about electronic shutters and their benefits and limitations. Take particular notice to rolling artifacts when shooting moving subjects. Electronic shutters are a real benefit in some situations but not in all.

Thanks!  That was it.  It also seems that after turning silent mode off I again had options in terms of the electronic shutter.

Yes, silent mode engages the electronic shutter as well as turning off all beeps - saving you from having to adjust a number of settings at once. Hence when it is off, electronic shutter becomes available again as an option in its own right.

Experienced same problem;after reading other responses looked at electronic shutter setting; it was already turned off as was silent mode. In desperation turned electronic shutter back on and then immediatly back on again and flash menu now appears  no problem!

Maybe a glitch in the software? Hope it works for you
