Ballerinas in the mist
12

Below some shots from a ballet performance I shot yesterday.

I usually use my D800 or D700, but sometimes take the V1 along if I think I might have the opportunity of using it.

These were shot with my V1 + FT-1 + 85mm 1.8G lens under typical stage lighting - which means poor light. All shot in RAW and then slightly processed in LR5.

Click on it to enlarge a bit - I hope you like it !

These are very nice. I like them (well..., except the 2nd one, which is a bit blurry). You captured the right moments. That's the most important, IMO, even if the pictures are not razor sharp.

Thanks André!

Yes these are technically not my best shots, but I like the mood in them. In retrospect I'm sorry I did not shoot these with the D800, but the V1 was the one I had in Hand at that moment.

I posted a blog about this shoot here  if you're interested.

Here's a sharper shot I got with the V1 :

You did well considering the light, a good lens choice I think!

Agree. the mood is the selling point.

I tried the v1+ft1+85mm for standoff night street photography, but found the images too noisy/unsharp and the combo cumbersome. i'm sure it was my limited skillset as much as anything else.

your photos do the combo justice.

Thanks for looking Joe. I think you more than most will understand when I say I can kick myself for not using the D800 when I shot these shots. Looking at them again on the computer I realise just how much more I could've done with these images in PP.

Oh well, sometimes you win, sometimes you don't

Happy holidays to you too !

Yes, this one is sharper. I had a look at your blog. Really impressive pictures there.

But I do love the ones you took in the "mist", V1 or not! They are beautiful.

Thanks for sharing.
