23mm review with reference to the X100s

I've put together a little review of the XF 23mm f1.4 on the link below. I've included comparison shots to the X100s and a rationalization for owning both( which took some imagination). Hope it's useful.

Good review.

Is there any chance you got the f/2 images mislabeled. The 23mm f/1.4 is sharper than f/2, unless the f/2 is from the X100s. At least on my iPad it looks that way.

Hi Henry

There is a typo in your review of the 23mm. The difference in stops is 1 between the X100s lens at f2 and the X mount at f1.4

You know, I agree with you. I don't think it's mislabeled, but in viewing it, I wonder now about the focus. Bear with me and I'll look at the raw files.

23mm review with reference to the X100s

Henry

Should have said nice review. I agree with your assessment. Had mine 4 days now and love it. I recently sold my X-E1 and 18-55 lens to part fund the X-E2 with 23 and 35 lenses. No regrets what so ever. A very nice compliment to my FF DSLR system.

Like you I really look forward to the 56 1.2. Lets hope it lives up to the promise.

I was brought up in the age of zooms but primes really rock. This lens is special.

Re: 23mm review with reference to the X100s

Wow, I love your writing style, very Zen-like. Also many beautiful photos! I know you like the 23mm but the image quality of the x100s seems to be very close. Couldn't quite understand your rationale for buying the 23 unless it was the realization that you would be moving toward an interchangeable lens system - or was it just a love of the 23 1.4?

I'm torn between buying the X-E2 or the x100s. I have a whole battery of Nikon AI and AIS lenses that I could use on an X-E2 but am uncertain as to whether I could achieve the image quality of the 35 mm equivalents on either the X-E2 or x100s. I would potentially be using a metabones speed booster adaptor with nikon 24 f/2, 35 f/1.4, 50/1.8G, 85 f/2, and 200/f4. The choices are driving me nuts....

Cheers,

John

Re: 23mm review with reference to the X100s

First, thanks for your compliments. Your very generous.

In  terms of rationalizing the 23mm lens purchase: I use the X system cameras for among other things, low light indoor shooting without flash. The 23mm FOV is my favorite for this and the wider aperture does make a difference.

Plus, it looks cool on the X Pro  1.

That's my defense and I'm sticking to it.
