As long as no dogs or baby seals were killed in the process, it should be OK.
It makes a very interesting piece with a structure which migth depend on the type of soil.
A variation with pewter might fetch a higher sales price.

Re: Would you buy this "genocide" art?

I've seen scientists and biologists do this with liquefied concrete - no one said anything about them.

At least A - fire ants are nasty little buggers and B - they would have dies bloody fast (not like drowning in cement!).

Would I buy it - NO.
Do I like the 'structure' - Yes.

"Genocide" - NO

From Yahoo answers:

"The genocide of animals... or is that proper grammar?
Does the word "genocide" only relate to humans? Or, does it also relate to animals? For example, can you say, "The genocide of buffalo"?
genocide is : the organized and systematic murder of people based on race, religion... you get the idea
ex. Darfur is a genocide
so no you cant say genocide of animals, try slaughter"

So, yes, the ants were slaughtered, IF there were any in the nest.
Do we care much? I doubt it, there are plenty of ants on the planet.

What would you do if you found your home to be infested with termites?

The principle is - my home and yard is my world, come in and die. Stay if your world and you are welcome to your life.

In one way it's wrong - it's still a pointless killing.

But in another way.. it's an ant!    Do people fart about worrying over the bacteria they kill when they wipe a bench-top with Dettol?

I had the same reaction

When I read about it in National Geographic my reaction was "But what about the ants!"

Do you know what the word "genocide" actually means?

"The systematic and widespread extermination or attempted extermination of an entire national, racial, religious, or ethnic group."

Source here.

It's a good thing that there is no g-d....coz, it would have simply thrown us into the garbage can - long ago.

So, YOU actually think that pouring molten metal onto the ants is cool?

Sometimes I truly wonder about YOU 'supposed" Christian folks.

Yeah, it's really KOOL to destroy living creatures with liquid metal just for fun.

Really?

YOU sound like a little child that doesn't know any better here.

Anyone who thinks that KILLING living creatures is cool or fun is mentally disturbed.

Tried gasoline, then burning the mound but that didn't work (can't you tell; despise fireants).

I used some of this AMDRO on a colony I had been neglecting over the last few years.  I saw more of them this last summer than all other years combined.  Now, I see none of them.  AMDRO is the right stuff.  I'm very happy it worked out so well.  Goodbye, red/fire ants, nice knowing you ...

Trust the chemical death that is AMDRO!
