Tamron 200-500mm question

Hi guys,

Just taken delivery of a "mint" Tamron 200-500mm lens. I have a question about manual autofocus.

When I put my A99 into MF the lens allows MF fine - my question is about how smooth the MF ring on the lens is. Mine seems to have tiny, tiny, clicks (like a thumbwheel) - is this 'correct' My others lenses such as don't have this in MF mode - they are all feel 'smooth' when the focus ring turns in MF.

Also, again in MF, there is around 1mm of play / movement before the lens ring starts to change focus. Hardly anything but I'm wondering what the tolerance should be.

Hope I'm clear on this.

Apart from this it's looking like a good lens.

Thanks

Carl

Re: Tamron 200-500mm question

I no longer own that lens, but did for a number of years and mine too has a stiff manual focus ring that tended to jerk rather than turn smoothly.

With good light it took very good images.

Thanks Old Pirate. I think it does make a click like a thumbwheel - someone on Dyxum confirmed it.

Hopefully CaptBob will be able to do so too.

Mine has that too, nothing to be worried about. But I don't use mf with that lens, always autofocus.

Thanks Danny. I'm feeling better and better. It felt too mechanical to be a fault.
