Light painting (K5II)
1

I've been playing about with a bit of light painting again. A couple of different approaches, one more subtle, and one probably just a bit over the top.

Season's greetings!

Ya, I like the second one also. Can you describe how it was done?

Thanks. Tim

Looks like a wild Christmas is in store from the second pic ....!

But more seriously, its good to see examples where the boundaries are being pushed beyond "safe" photography which always tends to be the norm ...  There's some mystery going on in the first one ... just missing a figure in a white dress ....

Thanks Alan

I'm busy squirrelling together various lights and bits and pieces to do a bit more experimentation.

It's quite good fun floundering about in the pitch black waving lamps around, and the results are sometimes quite exciting.

The other bonus is I haven't been arrested yet

Hi Tim

Thanks.

I set the decorations up in dark room, with just enough light so I could see what I was doing.

Set the shutter to bulb and the aperture to f16 with the camera on a tripod.

opened the shutter then illuminated the decorations by 'painting' with an led inspection lamp while shielding it to make sure it didn't shine directly into the lens.

then for the background I waved a string of led Christmas tree fairy lights around to make the streaks.

And that's about it.

Cheers

Thanks Rich

It's risky enough standing about in the pitch dark waving torches around, without wearing a white dress while I'm doing it!

". . .well you see, officer, it's like this. . . er . . .are you at all familiar with the technique of light painting photography?. . ."
