Great all around
1

I have owned the 18-135mm STM lens for about 6 months now.  Having said that, I feel it is one of the best Canon non "L" lenses on the market.  It is quiet, fast, sharp as a tack and one I leave on my 7-D all the time.  It is excellent for younger children's athletic events - have a comfortable equivalent range of 29-200mm.

The only downside which I have realized is that when you attempt to manually focus, the lens does not do so, it's almost like a dummy switch when I try to use it.  The other minor inconvenience is that when the lens "sleeps", it takes a second or so to wake up and focus accurately again.

Overall - I would recommend this lens without reservation for any crop sensor Canon.

Re: Great all around

Lens switched to AF overrides MF.
There isn't MF adjustment in AF mode.

To manually focus using the MF ring:

a) have the lens switch set to MF mode
b) have the camera switched on

There is no resistance felt when focussing, nor infinity stop.

The mind's eye has an aperture range spanning orders of magnitude, and a focal length strongly influenced by preconception, combined with vast though apparently volatile memory storage media prone to fallacious error-correction routines.

Sure there is. The AF has to be active, though. Half-press the shutter button (or press the rear AF-ON button) and then turn the focus ring.

If the camera is set to AI Servo AF then it will be impossible to do manual focus over ride.

Switch to One Shot AF and then you will be able to manually focus.
