You can certainly shoot the moon!

This is the sharpest lens I've ever used. Ever (including 70-200 IS II). It has good construction, smooth zoom with no creep, quick and silent focus, sharp wide open to the corners, lust color rendition like a prime L. The only downside is lack of IS but besides that point I'm giving it a 10/10. I am in the process of selling my 24L II after having this 24-70 II because it is sharper and has the same colors. A zoom that is sharper and has better rendition than prime? Yes it can be done. The reason for 4.5/5 start is purely due to the lack of IS.

I agree. This lens is simply stunning! I give it a 10/10 myself, but regarding IS, not having it hasn't been an issue for me.

You are right lack of IS is not an issue for me too, saving now to the 70-200 f 2.8 L II IS USM

for sport and wildlife

this lens has hardly left my 1Dx camera since i purchased both together in june i feel pretty comfortable with it now after using it extensively. i haven't noticed lack of IS in this lens. i am not a big fan of IS. i'd give this lens a definite 5 star

cheerz.

I'm a photojournalist and agree that this review is dead on. The lack of IS is too bad because I sometimes work in extremely low light conditions where stabilization would be handy. I would also appreciate a deeper lens hood to protect that massive 82mm front lens element.

But the optical quality of Canon's 24-70 f/2.8L II is truly outstanding, (better than the 70-200!). In addition, the resistance to lens flare, even when shooting directly into light sources, is incredible for a zoom lens.

Canon is charging a ton of money for this mid-range zoom, but you can sometimes find a price drop if you keep checking for sales.

Ditto ditto ditto...the best lens I've used by far. All aspects of it are awesome. Wouldn't it be great if it was 24-85...maybe,I totally love it anyway.
