Df released on the 28th and so far no news is good news?

I don't have a Df because I was waiting to see if any posts came up on a defect. So far all I've seen are people loving the camera and looking at the results they got, they're fantastic. I haven't seen one person complain about a thing. That's a great thing, especially for Nikon who seemed to have tarnished their reputation quite a bit with the D800 and D600. It sounds like the Df is a winner and looking at the pictures that people are posting I might need to pick one up sooner rather than later to take the D700's place. Here's hoping for more silence on the defect side of the camera.

Probably because people are actually shooting it and not looking for issues.

Yes, so far its good news.

However, not that many have been sold yet.  I just called my local store and they actually have stock of the Df with the kit lens.

That was impossible with the release of the D800 due to the magnitude of preorders.  The Df is more of a niche camera and even Nikon expects the sales volume to be low.

So, if you want a little more assurance you might want to wait a little more until a greater number of early adopters have weighed in.

Personally, I would not be that shy myself and even though my D800 had the left autofocus problem I do not feel like I was scarred over the incident.

People who "got it", bought it right away and are enjoying it. The ironic thing about the Df being performance flaw free is that the credit can go to what the detractors complained about initially.... that it was a frankencamera. A little D4, a little D6xx, a little FE. Two of those features have added to it's out of the box reliability and the third to its operational enjoyment.

Re: Df released on the 28th and so far no news is good news?

My only issue so far is the handling.

I have a d800 and love the feel of the camera in the hand.

This one, i feel like i wish the shutter release button was a bit more anterior, maybe if the small anterior grip was bigger and had the button there I would like it more.

Also as mentioned, the lug for the strap is annoying.

I will be using a tripod screw and left lug mounted strap anyway, so not a big issue for me.

Other than that, so far the only other thing is the AF module. don't care 39 vs 51 for me, but i wish it had a wider spread

It could be a coincidence but the weather has been a lot colder since the Df was released. Nikon, what have you done??

It seems Nikon was right

Buyers are people that actually like the idea of such camera, it's really optional, Nikon is not selling it as a needed tool for pros or amateurs, just as a nice alternative to those that just love photography. Many derided the ads, but that's just what is happening.

Too Soon To Tell
1

You can't say that no news is good news. It is much too early to tell. What if a month from now there is zero interest because all the early adopters have their camera? Is the Df still a success then with loads of unsold inventory? My Df was shipped days ago and it won't arrive for two days yet. A lot of customers are in the same situation waiting for delivery. Thankfully, I ordered the combination with the kit lens which fewer customers want. Those who have pre-ordered the silver version, body only, may have a long wait. We won't get to read about their user experience until the end of the year or later.

Polarizing

If there is a Df out there that has the slightest issue I think we will hear about it. This camera has too many detractors that are in the ready position to pounce. Likewise many pro-Dfer's will see each uneventful day as a vindication..

My Df is scheduled for delivery on Thursday. Here is the wonderful, upcoming weather forecast...

THURSDAY NIGHT: Rain changing to freezing rain after midnight. Ice accumulation is possible especially northwest where a WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect. Winds: N 10-15. Low: 29.

FRIDAY: Rain and/or freezing rain (60%) during the morning. Rain possibly mixed with sleet during the afternoon. Winds: N 15-20. High: 33.

How nice will it be to operate the Df dials while you're outdoors in a rain and ice storm?

For the past several days, both versions of the camera (silver and black) have been in stock and available for immediate shipping from Amazon. Just checked, and there were 5 silvers (body only) and 3 blacks (body only) in stock. Seems to be unlimited supplies of body+lens options. Regards. -iwbs
