Fault Help needed

I have a canon 400d which I have always used on fully automatic. It appears that I have inadvertantly turned it onto some sort of timer mode? It counts down and then takes photo. How do I turn this off?

many thanks!!!

You have, probably inadvertently, set the self-timer.

Details on how to set and clear it are on page 49 of your manual

Page 49 of the 400D/Rebel XTi Manual

It is well worth spending some time reading the manual and familiarising yourself with your camera's controls.
