Green button?

Hello - I came to samsung via pentax clone type camera. Originally bought a gx10. I liked the green reset button, which allows you to quickly get back to the cameras default/automatic exposure settings. I found the same button on my nx11....However, I can't find a similar feature on my recently purchased nx300. Certainly no green button, but maybe I'm missing something. Guidance would be appreciated.

While I'm at it and at the risk of provoking some vitriolic/indignant outbursts (I've been observing some of the recent forum exchanges) does anyone have any suggestions about getting rid or minimising the "filmic" nature of the images? I'm generally happy with picture quality and don't want to get involved with raw processing, but do find what I can best describe as a water colour effect on some of my photos. Ive tried disabling some noise reduction, but still get this tendency towards loss of detail/smearing. Especially when I crop. Maybe it is just a feature of samsung JPEG engine. It's strange because there is undoubtably good detail on many files, but I do find this almost "synthetic" feel to some images a bit annoying at times. I can live with it because I like the colour reproduction of samsung (more accurate then my pentax k-01), but would like to get a sharper/cleaner image.

Any suggestions/obsevations.....preferably non abusive.

Thanks.

Re: Green button?

Have you tried going into the picture wizard you use and changing the settings also do you have smart range on.

Re: Green button?

Thanks Simon. I've only used picture wizard to select landscape or action freeze. Never thought about experimenting with custom mode. I see you post landscape shots. Any suggestions re. custom settings?

Coming back to the green button....when in programme mode and I override to select aperture, but then want to move back to the cameras auto settings I used to press the green button. Is there a way of doing this on the nx300?

I don't have the nx300 someone else could help you with that . On the picture wizard you use there should be a arrom click on that and you will go into that frame , you can then change colour temp contrast saturation and sharpness . You should experiment but don't oversharpen or over saturate. I am afraid I shot RAW so all my settings are standard but just have fun trying different settings thats the joy of digital it doesn't cost anything.

Re: Green button?

green button is for idiots just meter appropriately to circumstances ( spot vs. averaged vs. multi) and adjust shutter speed/aperture/iso just like your dad did and you'll need no green buttonnnnn

ps I own pentax k5 and it obviously does have green button but I only use it when i'm drunk or just feeling like an idiot

Re: Green button?

nx cameras don't need green button because they only have one "program line"

pentax k5 for example has several ( 'normal", "dof prioritization", etc) and pressing that button on it  simply meters to specific "program line" you select. nx cameras do it automatically as soon as you turn them on. you simply tweak shutter speed/aperture/iso and you watch that meter scale on the bottom of your lcd screen and - depending on how experienced you are with camera - hit 'zero" ( I normally underexpose because retrieving lost shadows in pp is much easier, than retrieving overexposed highlights- if possible at all). also I love my little placticky nx1000 because it gives me instant preview of exposure on the screen so I don't have to waste time reading histograms like I do on my k5

Well there you go. It didn't take too long for a predictably cretinous individual / remark to surface....Let's see if the moderator(s) of this forum act appropriately for the sake of civility.

I wouldn't waste time on moderators

just call fbi - they're more  efficient to boot, too

by the way you people need to speed up your photography learning process

I knew nothing even 6 months ago  and now I can mumbo jumbo with pros on equal basis...

and he who calls people "cretinous individuals" is talking about "civility".....hahaha

sorry but I didn't call you names - I might simply stimulate some brain activity ( called "thinking")

thinking usually doesn't hurt......usually

You could try and be more understanding and sympathetic about people without your obviously superior skills and abilities.

my "superior skills and abilities" are obviously only in my head if people call me a "cretinous individual". I think I got what I deserved

The funny thing is that our supreme expert has completely missed the real use of the green button on Pentax cameras...

Hint: it has to do with Pentax Hyper Modes (Hyper-P or Hyper-M)... time to RTFM and get down from your high horses Dr A target...

It's only one possible use of the green button in M mode...

No, they don't.

As long as you can see it...
