Some variety of photos from Budapest
3

Hello everyone,

I decided to share some photos I took in Budapest.

All taken handheld with my 16-50 kitlens.

Its my first real experience with the nex 5R, as previously I mainly read materials on how to operate it (The Gary friedman guide is great).

I have a few very nice portraits, tough I didnt upload them as the subject prefers to remain anonymous

One thing that upsets me a bit is the fact that for some portraits, even with good/very good light, the camera sometimes fail to focus correctly, so when I noticed it i fixed with DMF, but when I didnt...well, thats disappointing a bit.

I hope you'll like it

The local market paprika

I *really* like this one. very sharp IMO, I used DMF to adjust the focus when I took the picture

Marzipan couple

Another marzipan subject of the smurfs. I took it closely, so you lose the actual dimensions feel

The parliament

Elizabeth bridge

"For sale" local pub restaurant

The photos of the shoes at the river bank are very poignant.

Yes, I find them very realistic.

they stands a memorial to the jews killed there in WW2 , but I guess it is known to most of Budapest tourists, so I didnt say anything at first

" even with good/very good light, the camera sometimes fail to focus correctly"

- Are you using centre or flexible spot focus? (hint - you should be!) The contrast-detect auto-focus system on the NEX will often focus on a higher contrast background instead of your subject's face, especially using multi-point focus, as this will search all over the frame for high contrast (whether this is a failure or not depends on your point of view ). Centre or spot work better.

Try face detect, or better, take control by choosing a high contrast spot to focus on, like where dark hair meets light skin, or a patterned clothing item etc. And as you've learned, check with DMF magnified view just to be sure.

And nice pics!

Re: Some variety of photos from Budapest

I was using mostly Multi focus with face detection, but it didnt always work that well, even when zoomed quite enough.

I guess flexible is the best way, but the lower button is dedicated to AEL Lock (which I find myself use plenty of times in difficult lights, such as when its cloudy) so I cant change the spot.

I guess I'll go with center focus, and just go half-way with the shutter, focus, recompose and shoot.
