Thom Hogan recently posted an article on smartphone camera integration. I think it's interesting because he mentions Samsung (he's pretty harsh on them) but also because he may be touching on some real opportunities for Samung. Here's the article: http://www.gearophile.com/newsviews/the-short-answer.html
He's basically talking about seamlessly transferring files from a camera to a smartphone (should be easy, shouldn't it?) and from the smartphone to the internet (in whatever form). Toward the end of the article he's making another interesting statement: companies shouldn't try to put a phone in a camera but the 2 should complement each other.
I was thinking that you could probably take that idea even further and go for a full seamless integration of camera and phone functions. Not like the Galaxy NX, but join the camera to the smartphone and use each of the devices for what it does best. Sharing images is one possibility but there are other thinkable functions as well. In another thread someone wanted a detachable screen and someone else wanted integrated GPS. But if the camera and phone work together seamlessly you already have those functions. Samsung has already tried something like that but it's way too limited imo.
I'd think that if there's one company that could make this work that it would be Samsung (regardless of Thom's criticism). Even more: people would probably find it very logical for Samsung to come up with something like that. They'd almost expect it. What if Samsung could market their cameras as THE perfect companion to your smartphone. "You've got a smartphone? Then you'll really like this camera!" Huge market potential!
I know this is not the direction most enthousiast would want Samsung to go, but let's face it, Samsung is not known for it's great cameras but for it's mobile devices (and tv's etc. etc.). Imo they should play to their strengths and integrate their existing knowledge and technology into their cameras. As long as the cameras themselves are fully functional (with real buttons and everything) there's no harm in adding functionallity like this.
