Has anyone recently purchased a UV filter from Ebay a UV filter worthy to be mounted on a 24-70 "pro" lens but does not cost ~100 USD ?

I found a steal of a deal on a Nikon 82MM LC37 UV filter for same lens u have (it seems to perform the same way as the NC filter - They are no longer produced) I'm sure the B+W will do just as well!!!

I would not buy from E bay. I use b & w filters on all my lenses. Get the uv 010 b & w filter from b & h photo. You can get them for a lot less than $100.

No, the one I would get would be the B&W 82mm uv haze mrc 010m filter for $79. The mrc coating on this filter is an anti reflective coating, stays clean longer and easier to clean.

And we're off again...

I'll keep it brief. If you're sure you want to use a full-time protective filter, here are two that offer good value:

Marumi Super DHG Digital Protector (55.96 USD + shipping):

Hoya Clear Pro1 Digital (57.55 USD + shipping):

Thank you all, I ordered it.

Also just received the Tamron, what a fantastic lens. Still testing but first results are breath taking. This is almost as good as a prime (I mean for sharpness, not distortion). And that far, vigneting is not visible in the shots I took. I am wondering if the D800 is not increasing corner brightness anyway, even if the lens is not a Nikon.

At first, I thought VR made pictures less sharp, but this evening all seems ok. I can now take bright pictures at ISO 3200 and 1/8th or slightly less that are perfectly usable. They even look bright as if the room was brighter than by naked eye.

Last good surprise is that in Switzerland, Tamron offers a 10 year warranty, covered by Leica service center!

really feels like a great deal.
