GX7 without the EVF?

Who would buy the GX7 without the EVF for $200 less? Since some people do not want or require an EVF and would like a smaller/cheaper camera, wouldn't it be nice to have that option. I would rather have 5-axis image stabilization and weather sealing, IMHO.

I would buy the GX7 for the same price as it cost now if it had 5-axis image stabilization and weather sealing instead of the EVF.

Sorry, can't answer your poll as I bought a GX7 a few weeks ago.....  with an EVF and without 5 axis IBIS.

Your poll, to me, has a strange set of alternatives.

Tom

PS   I like my GX7, tilting EVF and all.

Anyone who doesn't want an EVF can't really be serious about photography. Just continue to hold your camera at arms length, then complain about blurry pics.

Or maybe you constantly use a tripod.

You want one just to save a 200 bucks?

It's nice to see a good joke on these forums occasionally... This is a joke right?

Well, I have GX1 with LVF2 viewfinder.  I would buy a new model with better image quality where I can use the LVF2 I have.  I am hoping such a model is still coming.  I looked at GX7 in a store and found the viewfinder too small for me.  Really disappointing.

I like the viewfinder, a little hard to see in bright light but I now tip my ballcap brim over the camera and I can see fine.

While I would like the best of every camera in the one camera that I buy, I will wait until that comes out next year.

Yeah, the alternatives are a bit like traps. The OP should revise them. Or maybe it was on purpose.

Maybe he like better a big "pentaprism" like those on some cameras.

Why don't you just get an Olympus e-p5? It has IBIS and no EVF.

Re: GX7 without the EVF?

Having more choices is seldom a bad thing, but I doubt dumping the EVF would realistically lower the price much; market conditions probably have far more to do with the current price tag... Something like the E-PL5 is priced/sized about the same and it lacks an EVF. Making it a fixed EVF would probably save some space tho, I wouldn't mind them going down that route to instead include a larger display within it.

The EVF is probably a more desired option in general than weather sealing, since you'd have to opt for some rather pricey (or unstabilized) lenses to take advantage of the latter, though I agree it'd be a suitable upgrade at this price point, maybe for a future GX. A larger non-16:9 EVF and improved IBIS would really make for just about a perfect GX IMO...

Hopefully it doesn't take years for a follow up model to show up, I imagine an EM5 refresh with a fewupgrades (like wifi and focus peaking) can't be too far away. I rather like the corner mounted EVFs tho, and Panasonic's UI.

Why do you think he holds the camera at arm's length?

It's available already and called the GM-1. If you want to save $200 then wait a few months for the first price drops / special offers. Then setup another poll asking who would pay $200 more for a GX7 with an optical VF in place of the EVF.

I just think having options when buying a camera would be a good thing. As simple as it would be to not include the EVF, I think it would have been a good move on Panasonics part to have one with and one without the EVF. At this time, there are 5 votes out of 57 that would prefer to have no EVF and pay $200 less. There are also 6 votes that would exchange the EVF for 5-axis image stabilization weather sealing (my choice) at the same price. For people with glasses (like me), EVF’s are not always that easy to use, and I doubt most people use it tilted that much. So far, this pole is pretty much exactly how I expected it to be. I also expected the few sarcastic replies, just because some people do not agree with other people’s opinions, like the two above:/ I don't use my G12 at arms length, I stabilize it in some way using the articulating display, which I like allot, too bad the GX7 does not have that either!

That being said, I think the GX7 is a very nice camera with the 12-32mm kit lens and the new 15mm, and smaller 35-100mm will be a great 3 lens system. After all reviews are out and ‘IF’ all new lenses are as good as I expect them to be, that system may be my next upgrade, even without 5-axis image stabilization or weather sealing or articulating display.

Um...unless I'm using mine wrong, the GX7 DOES have an articulating display. I also use the tilting feature ALL the time.
