My X100s received the best "worst compliment" ever!
10

Last week I was with a friend hanging and shooting a car show and asked a guy if I could take a portrait of him with his '60's muscle car. He agreed and I captured a few pics of him and the car. I always like to show people the images and this guy really loved the shots as did his friend leaning over his shoulder looking intently at the images.

So, I walk away and my friend overhears the car owner's buddy say "those were great pictures for such a shitty little camera"

Made me laugh! Because it shows how comfortable and relaxed people are with the X100s since it looks so unassuming, kind of like your dad's old camera. But one of it's great assets is that it's such a stealthy and yet approachable machine.

Here the shots:

Maybe it should be renamed X100slc

Maybe the guy shoots cars in a big studio with a 40 megapixel MF body when he's not showing off his Road Runner? (Maybe not.)

Very nice shots.  The Road Runner shot perfectly utilizes DOF to enhance the image.

Depends how old your dad is. My dad's old camera doesn't look like a X100s, it folds and has a bellows...

Yes that's normally the same result I get from people asking about the X100s. I though the guys comment was funny!

Good point! (btw, it was the car owner's friend who made the comment)

Yes, this is true. My dad had an old Argus C3 "Brick" from '53

Hey TitusXIII,

After your lovely comment I just had to see your image gallery on FlickR. And after looking at the your image below I can see you have really mastered your X100 capabilities and PP. It's funny how we both captured smokers in our photos. Well done my friend!

OOh!  No matter what the fellow said you just imaged the muscle car I drooled over as a teen and it appears to be in good shape!

It is also the color I like best.  Next time you see it ask if he wants to sell it.

My comment was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.

You missed that, but it's nice to see you have such a good memory.

I'm not happy with the PP myself; I rushed it a bit and didn't bother to tweak the highlights.

I just gave it a washed-out sepia bath trying to evoke the antiquity of the place. It is the original Cantina Hussong's, frequented mostly by locals, it's got the 2nd liquor license issued in Ensenada, some time in the late 1800s.

The Gringos go to Hussong's Papas and Beer, a few steps away, right on the street corner.

Subtle, well played.

Greg, your pictures, particularly the first portrait, are inspirational.  Excellent work.

Yes, it was a beautiful car, 383 and detailed in and out, super clean. I've always liked MoPars and had a '69 Charger years ago. Road Runners, Super Bees, 'Cudas, Challengers, love them all.

I'd be happy to ask if he wants to sell it if I see him again.
