Would you print this?

I have a friend from my youth who lives abroad, he saw some of my pics in flickr gallery and he told me he would have liked to have a picture from our island hanging in his living, I submitted the gallery to another friend who is the one who would eventually print it for me to ask him which one would he choose and he went for the attached one, it doesn't really convince me that much but I gotta admit it is quite a dramatic image of our island in the off season, please, your honest thoughts.

thank you

It is striking but the color of the sky and the clouds (purple?) don't look real to me - maybe its my monitor - has it been over processed?

Re: Would you print this?

Beautiful image, but the rocks of the cliff and some of the water appear to be burned almost black. It looks like spill from burning the sky down to get those dramatic clouds. Needs another shot at post processing to reveal the best from this image.

No, the colors are really off in the sky and water.  The clouds look purple is spots, and the surf looks turquoise.  Also the upper cliff on the right is very dark.  This one needs to be reprocessed and then maybe if you clone out the hanging tree.

Re: Would you print this?

Yep, too much...

I will try again, the idea is to enhance the sunset colors and the sky a bit and then to brighten the cliff a bit and to make the water's foam a bit "whiter".

Unfortunately the starting shoot is not that good but on the other hand I have the RAW file to work on, I will play with it later and will post the results, please gimme your advise in the meantime.

Attaching the original converted/resized RAW

This is much better. I would crop off some of the right and bottom to eliminate the upper dark corner and up from the bottom for more pleasing composition after cropping the right side.

Here I increased the sunset colors and cloned out your watermark to demonstrate why it isn't needed and detracts from the image. I also cloned out the man-made device and lightened up the right a little. Dave

Absolutely. ...and it doesn't matter what you think. It's what the guy who is going to hang it in his living room thinks. The beauty of photography and what many don't understand on this site. It's all opinion and how the viewer is interpreting the photo, not you. As long as it is a large enough file to print ...sure.

Re: Would you print this?

Unfortunately cropping is not really an option, it is an old Fuji S5 shot, barely 12MP for a mere 250dpi printing once resized 18x12.

I agree that the sun is too orange, I think the attached is more balanced, what I would do is to make the water's foam "whiter" (started to attempt on the left side of the pic, will try to continue on later to see how it comes, in LR it is not the best since can't add a layer neither can select an area like with the magic wand in PS) before sending to the service to be printed, the watermark is only on the web version, of course it will not be printed.

Please go ahead with comments and suggestions

The above crop and pp looks great.  Now I would agree that it would be OK to print.  I don't like printing anything for anyone I wouldn't want hanging on my own wall.  Dave

sure you can print what ever you want. If you mean is it good enough to print thats your call not mine but if this is a sunset I would like it a bit warmer.

Re: Would you print this?

I came down to this, cropped a bit, resampled to still fit the printing size, sharpened...

If you like it then print it.  Print whatever size you like.   Photography is an expression of yourself  and your creativity.  What I or anybody else thinks about your creAtive expression doesn't really matter.

Excellent response to the OP.. But it is sometimes a good idea to put some value on others opinions which the OP asked for.

Re: Would you print this?

Thank you all for your opinions and comments, I am an amateur photographer who finds photography to be a never ending learning experience, I don't trust my skills too much (in photography as well as in many other aspects of life) and even though many people compliment me and/or ask to get some of my pics I am reluctant that's why I sometimes ask comments on both the technical aspect of my pics as well as the artistic one in which I value myself zero...

By the way the pic has been sent to the service to be printed 18x12, I will let you know the recipient's opinion once he gets it.

Thank you so much
