Re: Small birds with the FZ200

Small birds are my favorite, too. The smaller, the faster, the more I want to get them! These are excellent shots, Rodger, with the Pardalote being my fav. Such a unique looking little bird.

The pardalote is my favourite as well. I do love the small birds, but they are so hard to get. Thanks Vickie.

What beautiful little birds! I don't see too many that stay put long enough to photograph!

Re: It's Hummer Time!!

What a treat to have so many Hummers!

Is it usual for them to just perch like that? Around here in Southern California, they move so quickly around my flower garden.

Stick Insect

Stick Insects are in Insect Order Phasmatodea, and come in all sizes and colors. Photographed near a cabin in the Sequoia National Forest with FZ200.

Can't help with the ID - I'm a terrible birder - but they sure are pretty little things!

Re: Help me ID my yellow birds Pls!

Winnie, oh, I get a headache with these kind of birds! I can't give you anything positive, but here are my thoughts.

1. Maybe a female Hooded Oriole?

2. Thought it was some kind of Warbler, too, maybe a Yellow Warbler but that eye ring doesn't fit?

3. Maybe female Common Yellow Throat but it could be a bunch of others

4. Looks like some kind of Flycatcher?

Lot of help I am, huh? Hope someone will come along with ID's. Also, there's a Flickr Bird ID group that is great about ID'ing birds, fast and accurate responses. Just let them know where you live.

Re: Stick Insect

I have always been fascinated by this creature, so odd and fragile looking. Have never seen one in person. These are great macros! Thanks for posting this unusual guy, Richard.

Re: **** A couple from the left coast****

Nice job on these, especially that Pelican, averagjoe. That Kingfisher is a female Belted Kingfisher. They are so tough to get close to.

Some of my guesses were Nashville Warbler, female Yellow Rumped Warbler, Pacific Slope Flycatcher, Ruby Crowned Kinglet.

Two dozen?? That is hummer paradise! What's attracting them? Lots of feeders, flowers? These are terrific shots of your bounty, Yuki. Hope they stick around awhile so you can get more pics.

Thanks Vickie, these little jewels pretty much stay around here all year round.  They seem to just fly around visiting all the neighborhood yards with flower.  I have one feeder but that is closely guarded by one of the females

Thanks Richard, this is also Southern California (outskirts of LA).  I actually see them perched more often than flying around.  They will fly out to feed, then buzz back to their favorite tree until they get hungry again in about 5 minutes!
