The Panasonic Lumix S5II launched the second generation of Panasonic’s full-frame mirrorless camera system and was the first Panasonic to feature phase detect autofocus. As our review reveals, it’s a heck of an all-around camera for both still and video shooters.
16-70/f4Z on NEX7 (test shot)

My sel1670z has arrived one week earlier than expected. About 15 minutes ago
1 thing I already noticed is that it focusses faster than my other sony lenses. Now installing PDAF update. I'm curious.
Same here, got mine today about week early. Very fast focus in my 7, superp quality/feel. Feels even more solid than my SEL24z. The MF ring could be a bit wider IMO (takes a sec to get used to finding it instead of zoom ring), but the feel in the MF ring is very nice, much nicer to MF than say SEL50 or SEL35. Zoom ring is quite stiff, but I like it that way when compared for example with the one in 55-210.
Some people say, these "Sony Zeiss" lenses have just Zeiss logo bought into them, but I beg to disagree. The build-quality is way above normal SEL lenses (got the 1018, 55-210 and SEL35/50), MF ring feel/response is much better and unlike real Zeiss E Mount lenses (the Touits) the SEL-Z lenses seem to have very fast focus engine. Only took a few test shots so far but like with the SEL24, I could swear that the Zeiss characteristics (microcontrast, color and defocus gradient to give that pop) are there. Gonna propably shoot some test shots to check the 16 mm distortion etc. today if I have time.
I'm just a beginner, but I agree. Took one shot and I was already blown away. Maybe I'm a little too excited, who knows.
Yes, I have received several of these notices since ordering. I hope they aren't building us up for a further delay. I am encouraged that the shipment will be soon since the lens has shipped elsewhere in the world.

So... these are my testshots. Don't critisize the composition please. I just went outside, cloudy weather, took a few pics and then went home to see the results
These are shot raw, imported in lightroom, exported as JPG @ 100% quality. Only cropped the coins That's it.
I'm pleased with the quality. Is it worth 1000 euros? Hmmm... let me sleep on it...

the full size image (on NEX7) shows lots of purple fringe in corners
taken f8, 16mm
JPG OOC or RAW without cleanup?
I also processed other pics in lightroom, and I feel I don't need to apply as much sharpening as with the 18-55 kitlens.
Per the thread below, Sony lenses are compatible with the NEX built-in sweep panoramic function. This allows the lens to take panoramics at a shutter speed as low as 1/60 sec - where the optical stabilization works in tandem with the pano function.
http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/39319466
If the Ziess 16-70 is NOT completely compatible, you will only be able to get a shutter speed as low 1/500 sec during sweep panoramic.
Can someone confirm this? The way to confirm whether it is or isn't completely compatible is to take a sweep panoramic in indoor lighting - and see if the shutter speed can drop below 1/500.
Not all e-mount lenses are completely compatible with the pano function. It was discovered - for example - that the Tamron 18-200mm lens would not go below 1/500sec when taking sweep panos.
TIA
Terry
Thanks for the full size samples - like what I see so far.
I just took a pano at 1/60, f/4, ISO 1000. It's a little dark indoors, and it works fine.
And you're welcome.

That's what I wanted to hear.
These pictures are a little processed. Not completely satisfied. Or maybe I'm already getting used to it.
I had to be fast, because he was going to eat a little fly Actually no, it escaped.
This one didn't escape.

Thanks for posting the link. I looked at the set on flickr. While the rendering looks good the corners look terrible.

Looking at the guitar image it looks very sharp in the center. But if i look at the knobs on the bottom right they are very soft while the knobs further up look sharp. Granted - this is at f4 but still ... had hoped they can do better.
There is another reference further down in this thread. Same result ... corners seem very soft.
Im not sure about his test method. I will wait until I see more studio test shooting especially the corners one to see how it turns out. Maybe his lens he bought might have been a dodgy one (faulty), who knows though.
SLRGear hasn't yet to test it though.
Edited: I think those test lens are very close each other and can't see much different. You cannot expect sharp corner on wide angle lens as it will have some form of distortion. If you want better quality wide angle lens, then it best to go for prime wide angle lens to get tack sharp one. But again distortion is the one you should worry about that causing softness in it on edge and corner, its a big problem. But I look at Carl Zeiss and it still very good lens otherwise. Wish it would have been better outcome on corners though. Overall I think that Carl Zeiss would be much better than my old 18-55mm Sony Kit lens in quality overall.
