The Panasonic Lumix S5II launched the second generation of Panasonic’s full-frame mirrorless camera system and was the first Panasonic to feature phase detect autofocus. As our review reveals, it’s a heck of an all-around camera for both still and video shooters.
16-70/f4Z on NEX7 (test shot)
Just received the new Zeiss 16-70/f4Z, and went out for some shooting today.
Over on my site there is a test frame with NEX7 and 16-70/f4 Zeiss. Wonderful glas. I was always annoyed with the kit – lenses (16-50 oder 18-55), either distortion or CA or both. Here: Nothing at all. Tack sharp, and printed on an Z3200 in A3+ on FineArt paper: Very detailed rendering.
At last a matching lens for the NEX7. No for a 55-210/f4Z...
For all the pixel peepers: There is also a link to the original RAW/DNG file.
Best

Wenn die Sonne lacht, nimm Blende 8!
Thanks for the sample image. It is good to have a lens w/ no distortion and ca. I hope this is valid for 16mm. Can you post a photo at the wide side? From what I saw, 70mm end is very good.

Did you have to install the firmware for the new lens?
Wolfgang,
Thanks for the brief impression. I've got the lens on order and expect that it will be a winner. Certainly when combined with my NEX 6, the limiting factor will be me, not the equipment
Byron
Good question. I just went out shooting. Is there a new firmware? I am on 1.03 for the NEX7 and 0.1 for the lens...

Hello Byron!
It is indeed only a brief impression, but I am shure the lens is a lot better than the kit-lenses.
The post-processing for example has two steps less: Reducing CA an getting rid of the worst distortion.
And beside that: The lens is small enough and feels very "worthy".

IJLS, don't you just itch to get that lens as well? I am waiting for the stock to come in. Sigh, my credit card is going to get a huge hit!

Thanks!
Two things I noticed:
- very sharp at 16mm
- some longitudinal (or lateral?) CA at f5.6 (1-click in PP, does the camera correct this in the Jpeg?)
Looks good so far.
Hi Wolfgang,
could you please share where you got the lens from at this early stage?
Thanks and best regards,
Chris

Thx for these, looking good. 16 mm performance shows a lot of promise. Just hoping Sony shop delivers my 1670z before I head to Munich for Octoberfest and BMW Welt next week, the estimate currently is day before my flight out. My 16-50 went with my NEx-6 when I sold it so I'm out of travel zoom atm.
Nothing fancy here: I ordered the lens two weeks ago in a local shop in Bremen, Germany.

If possible, could you post an image of the lens on the camera. I would like to get a feel of the size of the lens. Sure seems like a good lens.
