Thanks Sal

the picture is about hands and we leave the rest for our imagination.

But but but....sputter sputter...Still....I feel a need for his fingertips, is what I meant.

catch or kitsch... up to you!

If the picture is about the hands, why draw attention to the bloody melons?   Why not colorize the rinds, which nature made a complementary color.  You have to put hands in the title because the red draws our eyes and makes the hands disappear.

Lots of lines to enjoy in this one!

Yes, but the title does not help.  I did a similar shot not too long ago, and it failed because the joined hands were just not enough to create a compelling image.

The dean of British fashion writers has just written a book about how clothes have evolved to show more and more of the (sexualized) human body.   He says that if Queen Victoria took a carriage ride through London today, she would faint every 30 seconds.

You caught a great pose among the young women, but the center head loses something next to the fussy house on top of her.

The centrifugal force of the tableau of naiads clashes brilliantly with the converging lines coming together.   Very thoughtful and powerful.

the colored melon are forcing your brain to connect between them and the empty hands

Re: late blooms

i like the tilt in this case--it orients the picture around the hand, which is the idea, for one thing . also, any horizon correction would lose considerably more than one figure at left. perhaps if i had been shooting a wider lens, i would have tried to keep the horizon level.

i am a bit surprised that you want to see lighter shadows than this. they seem pretty light already to me. i don't know if our monitors are showing the same thing. if you have the option, try viewing it on an ipad (or iPhone) screen, and let me know if you still think the shadows need lightening.

thanks for the comments.

Re: China Diner

this is a pretty sophisticated composition. i like the motion and colors.

i would consider tweaking the curve to put a bit more contrast/black in the deep shadows.

This photo makes a political statement... [NSFW?]

by mocking religion and being sexually suggestive.

Some people are likely to find it offensive.

Re: >>> Street Photography eXchange #57 <<<

i like the feeling of bustle and life in this. even spiderman looks happy.

while the expression is well-captured, i keep thinking there might have been more to do compositionally--there is a bit of dead space on the right and top, and some elements might be exploited more (the star, perhaps?). just something to think about for another time.

you captured a funny, expressive moment with style. i suppose some folks might have preferred cropping out the bottom half...  ; )

in all seriousness, the fact that viewers might see right through the photo to focus and comment on the subject is i think an indication that you've done something well.
