Help please! Broken Canon EOS Lens 85mm f/1.2 FD L

I need help with my Canon EOS Lens 85mm f/1.2 FD L

I’m hoping that someone out there can help me or at least give me a lead to a place where I can send my Canon EOS 85mm f/1.2 FD L lens, to have it repaired. I live just outside Chicago, IL in the suburbs. I’ve already sent the lens to International Camera, they took over a month to fix it but when I picked it up, it still wasn’t working and they said they could not fix it. Next I send it to KEH and they called me yesterday to let me know that they cannot repair it either. I’ve called Canon USA in Utica, IL and they tell me that they do not fix this lens any longer. This was a $1500.00 dollars lens and now is just a paperweight. I am very disappointed with Canon. Seems like even their lenses are made disposable now days. My question for everyone is this – is there a place in the US where they can repair this lens? Apparently the board and focusing motor are dead. Please, I do not want to just throw it away. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide me.

An FD lens had a focus motor & board?

Yup, the FD lenses are manual lenses, discontinued in the 1980's.

I guess it must be an EF lens. Model I was discontinued around 2006. might be difficult to get spare parts. perhaps it's possible to find parts or partial broken lenses (for parts) on ebay.

I wish I could help. I used to used one of these in my film days on a Canon New F1 and loved it ( if we are talking about the same lens).

I bought the EF version when I got my Canon 5D2.

Maybe a better option would be to trawl eBay etc to see if you can get a good used copy but maybe you've already considered this.

Good luck

I supposed you are talking about the EF 85 1.2L not the 'FD' one... Dead motor is easier by scavenging similar USM motor off some less expensive lenses. Dead board? game over.

This lens is focus by wire, without working electronics/motor it won't even manual focus, so that's definitely a bad point.

I am sorry, my lens is a EF autofocus lens not a manual lens. My mistake!
