Re: Samsung NX20 vs Sony A58

It does seem a lot of extra money to pay to lose the viewfinder in my mind. The NX300 has pretty much been stripped to the carcass with no mirror, viewfinder, stabilisation, accessory port, microphone jack or built-in flash. With an A58 you get all these things bar the accessory port at a substantial discount to the NX300 in the UK at least.

The world of mirrorless is outstandingly poor value for money and should only be entered if you have plenty of money or weight is absolutely paramount. Not the manufacturers fault as they have to keep margins high to counter poor sales volumes but you are subsidising this.

So in your photography philosophy was all about "Value for money" instead of "Performance"?

So you are suggesting that every photographer should buy every brand camera with 1 generation behind for the better value for money philosophy of yours?

I'm fine with that, but good luck to you.

my opinion is that depend on what is used by most consumers than selected few. size over feature not used or feature over other feature. do not see mirror needed by all, do not see viewfinder wanted by all, camera have different stabilization, some do not have, accessory port depend on what type you refer, microphone jack not needed by all, some do not have built in flash but provide accessory flash and some do not provide. I don't not see built-in flash essential.  better as accessory, my opinion.

is dslr more better? depend on where you look. in past I will say dslr with no question. but times change and so is priority. people go smaller, even dress. laugh.

Re: Samsung NX20 vs Sony A58

The Sony A58 is obviously a great camera, although there are many great cameras out there. I switched from an Olympus Four Thirds to Samsung. My Olympus was hardly big and took beautiful photos in good light, but its resolution was pretty low and its low light performance often seemed to lead me to disappointing images. I also had the Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens, which when it focussed produced amazing images, but didn't focus very often. I thought about upgrading to Micro Four Thirds, meaning the Sigma would be pretty hopeless, apparently, so that meant getting a similar native MFT lens as well as a camera body. The cost really added up. The Samsung system seemed appealing, with a great lens selection, and a good deal on eBay came along for an NX200 so I went for it. It came with the 30mm, and I got a 16mm for $50(!), and I just got the 45mm, so mostly replicating the Olympus set-up I had, all of which I sold.

The size it the most appealing thing for me, and the inexpensive and fantastic lenses, relative to FT and MFT. I just stopped using my Olympus once I got the NX200 even though I hung onto it for many months, so I took that as a sign.

had nx200 before selling in place of nx300. nx200 is very good but nx300 is just best. have now more flexibility editing dark pictures. and High ISO is welcome development. can now have good picture at 12800 iso. I love touch focus shot, very fast. and tracking. focus peaking make it more sweeter. also no waiting during processing of photo in camera after taking shot. maybe you try it 15 days with shop offer trial period.

Possibly but real photographers grew up with viewfinders and it's a different photograph any experience these big screens are nice but they don't allow you to become intimate with your picture-taking experience unfortunately everybody thinks 📷 should be comfortable and easy.. That's not why you do it... Slackers and canon fanboys want the cameras to do the work for them. The difference between a pro and a novice... The 45 mm is a great lens

most of the cameras produced in the Last 5 Years or better than any of Henri cartier-bresson used..

You should be using a camera that gets you results on the subject and guess what sometimes it is an older camera if you think buying the latest and greatest camera it's going to make you a better photographer you were certainly lost lost.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of not having a viewfinder at least an electronic one but the NX300 produces beautiful images with the 45 I'm very impressed the different learning curve I got to say I have my Olympus I love it but definitely not in low light..

I have NX20, Sony A37 and A77.

For me, NX20 has only 2 advantages over Sony.

1. Compact size

2. The 30mm pancake is fantastic

Yeah I have to nx20 and the NX300 I found I really can't go past 800 on the nxt 20.. that said as long as I'm in those conditions files are beautiful and the camera is fun to use. They definitely are different than the a58 especially out of camera jpegs

These camera kits (18-55mm) cost exactly the same (399euros=530$) in my country.

A58 over NX20:

-Phase detection AF (+ while recording video)

-Better focus peaking for MF

-Better battery life (+330 shots)

-Cheaper lenses

-In-built image stabilization and focus motor

NX20 over A58:

-Larger (+0.3") and crispier screen (+150K pixels)

-Faster burst rate (+3fps)

-Slow motion video (720p at 60fps, 480p at 120fps)

-Metallic lens mount

-Wi-fi (+remote viewfinder via smartphone)

-1/8000 max shutter speed

As you can see, it is very difficult to pick between the two cameras. Videography and photography are of the same importance for me.
If I buy two more Samsung lenses (45mm f/1.8 + 50-200mm f/4-5.6), the NX20 is about 100euros (=130$) more expensive than the A58 (+2 equivalent Sony lenses), so they re essentially equally priced.

NX20 is a far better camera. I would pick NX20 because I already have several NX lenses. Even if you never buy another lens, NX20 is a better choice. However, if you do plan to buy lenses than it is easier to find accessories and lenses for a58 than for Samsung. Lenses and accessories for a58 are also significantly cheaper than those for NX20.

What a about you give Samsung NX300 a try?

Yes, it may come without an up to be desire EVF, but you'll have a large 3.31" AM-OLED screen to compensate the changed.

Pixels count may not as high as a tiny OLED-EVF, but again the 3.31" AM-OLED screen was a huge screen to watch comfortably with both eyes than a tiny EVF with squeezing single eyeball to watch that left to be desire, plus it's an suffocating experience, every single time you have to sticked the camera up close with your nose compressed and twisted side way.

True. NX300 is such a pleasing camera to use
