Upgrade EX1 > EX2?

Question for those who upgraded (maybe some time ago) from the EX1 to the EX2: Was it worth while? IQ ooc the same or better? Camera faster, more responsive? Better handling? Anything that was a step back? Pls note I'm not interested in video or wifi. Many thanks!

For the EX1/TL500’s metal body, much higher resolution screen, about 100 shots more per charge and possible exclusive compatibility with Samsung’s wide angle conversion lens... plus some are saying less flexible shooting options on the EX2F...

You’ll have to judge if YOUR interpretation of it’s image quality difference is worth the change.

Before you sell it though, just keep in mind that the EX1/TL500 is one tough doggy.

WOOF!

Re: Upgrade EX1 > EX2?

I was very recently looking at a replacement for an EX1 and after looking carefully at all the options, and comparing the EX2 with the EX1, I bought another EX1.

Re: Upgrade EX1 > EX2?

I'm very pleased with the EX2 and consider it a general improvement over the EX1. I've had my EX2 now for nearly a year and use it almost daily -- great camera.

You're question has come up before and I posted some head to head test shots between the two cameras:

Sell it? No way! But even tough doggies eventually die, so I've started looking around for a possible successor. It seems the EX2 is still the only so-called advanced compact with a tiltable screen AND 24mm wide angle (isn't it?) so when prices start to drop I might buy it - unless it's clearly a step down compered to the EX2. Hence the question. BTW, I had already bookmarked your sensor cleaning post!

The third one, right?

Re: Upgrade EX1 > EX2?

Thank you all, I guess I'll wait for the EX2 prices to drop and then buy it.

If you think about upgrade ...Panasonic LX7 is much better camera than EX2.

Good points:

*automatic switching of ND filter - very very useful if you want keep optimal MTF or full opened apertures.

Multi aspect sensor -> equal diagonal in 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 and even bracketing of aspect ratios.

Faster a liitle longer lens and wider ->in mode 16:9 about 22 mm eqv.

90/F2,3 very useful and Intelligent zoom 180 mm allows take further objects and quality drop is small.

Lens is very very nice, Leica did good job.

Very good software, intelligent resolution i dynamic and many more options.

Very fast and precise AF - for me the base of any camera.

Very useful aperture ring placed on lens - mostly in A and M modes.

ND filter lever easy to operate and useful in MF too.

Very good optional viewfinder LVF2 widh 90 degrees regulation - necessery in bright lighting.

Good battery life - with viewfinder better.

Very good fullHD Movies - I did some during last holidays and do montage in computer software.

If you try movies you will be convinced do more - with such wonderful quality it is nice and camcorder is not needed.

To my work I use slow motion movie to watch device behavior.

I use Samsung NX and I also was interested EX2 but after researching checking, testing I choosed LX7 nad I'm very satisfied.

Both cameras together I used during holidays - NX with 50-200 for tele range and LX7 for wide range and movies. I did not have to change lenses (it is difficult sometimes) and I have nice pictures with very good quality too - nobody can distingish what is from LX7 and what DSLRs - my friends had on the same trip so I have comparison.

EX2 dissapionted me. Optics are worse than in EX1. Lack of viewfinder, and not perfect ergonomical aspects. Even spare battery charger is not in the package.

Only the screen is OK in this camera but it is not enough.

Think that for Panasonic you will find much more accesories as external flash in egzample.

And int the end LX7 is made in Japan EX2 in China - it makes a risk of quality issues.

Of course the choise is up to you I try to advice/help as an experienced user.

Good luck

Chris.

Re: Upgrade EX1 > EX2?

There is no greater love than Chris62 for his LX7 and he loves listing voluminous and rather suspect statistics on his beloved camera. Apparently the LX7 is a match for all DSLR's, I doubt if any camera can match his LX7 let alone the EX2. These are all based on web reviews and he has never used an EX2 as far as I know which does not make him an experienced user as he claims.

Possibly he could confirm if he has used the EX2 extensively in his own hands enough to be familiar with all its features.

Crikey, I thought that it was only Samsung users who did this...

orry for late answer but I was on holidays and of course I took many pictures both LX7 and NX10 cameras.

I do not understand your irony.

I only want to help.

As you can see I exactly pointed out why I recommend LX7 instead of EX2.

Don't you agree with my comments? In which point?

As a customer I always apreciate good products and criticise disadvantages of products.

In nowadays world it is easy to choose not good product because we are attacked from every side with advertisemnt, marketing.

My point of view is not marketing (wi fi , bla bla)

My point of view is what I get as an advanced photographer.

In this field IMO LX7 is "a little" better.

Yes I acknowledge I am under LX7 impression, but... is it something bad?

Before we buy something is good to have a choise and to consider what is better for us.

Apparently the LX7 is a match for all DSLR's, I doubt if any camera can match his LX7

You should read and understand. Mayby my English is not good enough...I am sorry.

Yes, LX7 can match to many DSLR's in its focal range and A3 picture size limitation and for sure is better tool than DSLR with kit lens because offers sharper pictures and macro.

I claim this on a base of camera using in the same conditions.

The only reason I use NX10 now is small DOF and tele range.

As we know compact camera is easy to carry everywhere, so this is the point.

It is difficult to find small camera that does not make us nervous - (I mean slow AF, opreation ergonomy, manual options and good picture quality).

In LX7 succesor I wish built in viewfinder as in GX7 is and maybe even faster lens.

I think compact camera should offer wide angle it is very useful so both LX7 and EX2 does not have competition now.

Look that majority of premium compacts are not both wide and tele not slow but not fast lens too. They are in between so they for everything and for nothing.
