Can someone share a history or origin of why 35mm FL was the "chosen one" in the first place?
I am not sure what you are asking and/or mean by FL. I do know that the 35mm standard we use today is based upon the readily available 35mm film stock that was used to make movies and the motivation of Oskar Barnack of Leica to develop a small, light weight, portable camera.
