Just bought a NX 210 Am I crazy to do so?

i have a series of Samsung cameras including EX1 (TL500).  I have been impressed by build quality and certain quirky but fun features on Samsung. Most of my shooting is with Canon 7D.

So what would posess my to buy a NX 210 knowing that it falls short of the NX 300?  I really liked getting APS C   Sensor. The form factor , nice construction and here is the last part low price. At $300 it is half price of  NX 300. So is a 300 twice the camera ?  Wht say you all, I am I crazy to do this ?

As with many things in life a great photograph has strong appeal for what is NOT in the picture.

Nope. They're both great cameras. You get what you pay for haha...
I'd daresay your NX210 gives the 7D a run for its money anyway (in terms of image quality and low light autofocus).

as mentioned, you get what you pay for. you don't know what you are missing on nx300. I say try both and see if 300 dollar more worth it.

And for the next one, wait for some kind of nx320 or nx3000, an "all plastic" NX300

No, at that price , I don't think you can find a better camera with 20m apsc sensor.

But if you pay a more, you can get a bit more closer to the FF Canon 7D quality.

I bought NX1000

tried the 300, went with the apparent closeout 1000, smaller, same sensor and equal in every way. I do not understand why anyone would spend twice the price for the same basic camera
matter of fact I bought a second body yesterday to use as a backup

Re: Just bought a NX 210 Am I crazy to do so?

Crazy is a big word

I'd say that the nx300 is worth every euro I paid for it. I also have (and had when I bought the 300) a nx200 which, apart for wifi, is about the same of nx210.

Well, the nx300 is so much better than nx200. The display, bigger, tiltable and touch. The features: focus peaking, touch to focus, touch to shoot. The speed: much faster and responsive in every single operation, especially shoot to shoot time or changing settings after a shot. The jpg engine: definitely much better at iso 1600 and above. The iq in general: about half to 1 stop better at high iso, higher dr at any iso.

So, for me, a nx300 is worth more than twice the cost of nx210. But it's subjective.

Re: Just bought a NX 210 Am I crazy to do so?

Thanks for your response. You said the very things that I was thinking and based my question. Is it a waste of money to buy at 300 when for 600 there are so many improvements. I always shoot only raw so the JPG ISO issue is not a concern, but the speed for RAW capture is something that I will have to judge.

The camera arrives tomorrow, we shall see !

The best thing to do, imo, is compare both in your hands.

better jpegs, better high iso srw files, focus peaking, better focus speed and accuracy. touch focusing, no processing lock, etc...

if person only looking for low iso sensor, it is almost same quality. but you pay more for improvement you need. all top cameras now pretty much equal so no sense on discussing base picture quality. they all excellent. it functionality and performance now you pay for. you can live with shortcomings of nx1000 is ok, no problem. others like what they get from nx300 that they don't get from nx1000 where mentioned above. not difficult to understand.

Re: I bought NX1000

I find only the touch focusing as a difference, all else is equal in my opinion, and I don't much like touch focusing.

When I need more I go with my NEX 7

The NX300 is much less of an upgrade over the NX210 than the NX200 was over the NX100, but that's to be expected.

The big improvement in the NX300 should be the PDAF. The rest of the upgrades are relatively minor. I'm not at all a fan of touch screens on cameras. The articulating screen can be helpful but it also adds some weight and bulkiness to the basic design. And Samsung removed the rear control wheel.

I would be curious to see if Samsung fixed the two big issues with the NX series: very slow write speeds and brain-dead flash control (not that the available dedicated flashes are anything to write home about even if they did fix it).

Re: I bought NX1000

understand opinion of yours. of course. but given chance to try camera outside store and see if different or not is sound advice than in-store. I bought RX1 when store loan me camera for 7 days if I like or not.  factors mentioned big deal for me, especially processing speed of raw which I not like with previous model.

The third issue which Samsung did not fix was the lack of EVF. Had they installed an EVF to the NX300, they would have a winner in almost every sense.

Re: I bought NX1000

Do you think there is any chance of an all plastic RX1?

Edit: Maybe if Samsung take over Sony.

Actually nx has much more metal than nex, if we look at nx200/300.

Re: Just bought a NX 210 Am I crazy to do so?

shot to shot cycling times are annoying enough for me (NX200) that I almost always shoot jpeg.  I'm usually shooting candids of moving kids.  *Maybe* it's better on the latest firmware, but I haven't checked.  Blew my expendable cash on 85mm, so no NX30/NX300/NX3000 for me despite the improved responsiveness

Re: I bought NX1000

even with plastic, sony will not go cheap. laugh.

plastic is good noh, as long as not fake and made in cheap cheating factory in china.

rx1 is nice body but this tops rx1. not lose value over time, laugh - http://www.eyeofriyadh.com/news/details/axiom-telecom-secures-exclusive-rights-for-samsung-nx300-gold-limited-edition-smart-camera
