56mm f/1.2 | What would you pay?

Lots of us are excited about the upcoming 56mm f/1.2 Fuji lens. Assuming it is as optically excellent as we all expect, what's the MAXIMUM you would be willing to pay for one?

I would pay the $699 of the first primes but I'm afraid it could even excel the $1,200 you set as the highest possibility so I'm not interested

Best,

Mike

Re: 56mm f/1.2 | What would you pay?

I think it should come in a little above the current normal primes, but less than the 14mm wide. $699 is probably the sweet spot. Yes, it'll be a crazy fast f/1.2, but a 56mm lens should be less complicated to design/build than a 14mm lens? It'll have some BIG glass though...

Can't wait!

$600ish would be my top limit... would prefer cheaper (who wouldn't?), simply because this system is breaking my wallet

I don't plan on purchasing it, but I'm guessing it'll be $899.

Re: 56mm f/1.2 | What would you pay?

I'm not sure. Since they pushed it back to 2014 it kind of forced my hand as far as portrait length goes and I'm using a zeiss 50mm for Leica M mounts on it now which is a really nice lens. I would prefer a 85mm equivalent though so ill probably get it and just use the zeiss on film. Since I have the 50mm though it's unlikely I would be willing to pay more than 700 unless it is just beyond outstanding.

No more than $499. We are not talking about full frame Canon L lenses, are we?

You know you do make a very valid point. Nikon's new updated 85mm 1.8 is around $500 and a very very good lens. The build quality on that lens isn't as nice as the fuji's but optically that lens is probably better than any of the Fuji lenses I've used. Unless it's their best lens they shouldn't charge anything more than $700

I think that given the optical quality of the prior Fuji primes this is going to be one truly awesome lens. Because I believe that I have to say that if it proves to be what I think it's going to be I'll pay whatever it takes to have one.

then Fuji may be prepared that they won't get my money. The lens would cost no more than $250 to make.

Nikon's 85mm f/1.4 costs $1,000.  I just wouldn't expect Fuji's 56mm f/1.2 to be much less.  Premium lenses command premium prices.

Re: 56mm f/1.2 | What would you pay?

I expect that we in the UK will be paying up to £800.  Anything more than that and I'd be waiting for discount.  It's the lens a lot of people have been waiting for, and need to complete their system, so Fuji are bound to screw us.  But I'll still pay and then I won't buy anything else from them, even an X-Pro2.

Re: 56mm f/1.2 | What would you pay?

56mm is a not a difficult FL to make, unlike wide primes, so I do not expect it to be as expensive as the 14mm prime. Widesaretrickywith corners, distortion, CA....

I have a Nikon prime which I rarely use so I personally would not be interested if much over $600. Right now I just want to see how fukis mythical wide zoom performs.

Yes, a 50mm f1.8 by Canikon is $100. So a 56mm f 1.8 could be made for $125. But Fuji probable will screw us. They are reading this poll though in Tokyo with interest.

ever priced out a 50/1.2? or even better - a 50/f1.2 af?  Since you like to comment on prices, maybe you would like to compare apples to apples.
