Re: NZ Sacred Kingfisher: NEX-7, 500 F/4.5L

You and those kingfishers seem to have some deal, some secret handshake...a deal with the devil at the crossroads...something!  The bird seems to love giving you all kinds of poses and lovely light to shoot with - you sure it's not your pet and you send it out there on the water to put on a show?

Wonderful shooting, as always!

BTW, Atgard...

Atgard wrote:

Wow, nzmacro, those are some spectacular shots and a beautiful bird -- I wish we had kingfishers around here.

While ours are nowhere NEAR as beautiful as those Danny gets to shoot, we do actually have kingfishers fairly commonly here - they just show up around fall/wintertime.  Keep coming out to Wakodahatchee and Green Cay as we get into fall season and shoot into the winter, and surely you'll get some encounters with our belted kingfisher.  And while not as pretty as Danny's variety, they are still cool birds to shoot!

Re: On the multi-eyed side...

Excellent, Lucas - I love those spiders that sit in the X-wing configuration.  Is this a type of Argiope?  We've got the silver argiope variety down here, that sit in that manner, and have the same type of large circular body.

Nice - always a wonderful thing to see in the wild - any deer is always a nice sighting, but multiples, and still in their spots...very nice!

Lovely color - and two bugs in one!  That's some nice, tight shooting, and nice detail.

Florida wildlife - BIFs, egrets, turtles and lizards
2

Well, looks like I'm late to the thread again - had some pet emergency on Saturday after being out shooting - my cat was having some issues throwing up often, and stopped eating, and Sunday had to bring her to the hospital - haven't really had any time to be online the past day and a half, worrying about her.  I'm hoping she'll be OK - she's home again today but I need to watch her and see if the medicines solve the issue - we're hoping some stomach poisoning or obstruction which has been cleared and hoping she'll be OK now.

Anyway, I still have some recent shots from a few weeks ago to post here, from the A580 & Minolta 300mm F4 + 1.4x combo...so here goes:

Little blue heron, still in its juvenile white coloration

Least bittern popping between the reeds for a look around

Baby softshell turtle cruising the waters near shore

Egret flying overhead

Great egret coasting over the waters

Wood storks ain't the prettiest birds around, but they're big and graceful when they fly

Young egret wading by

Glossy ibis walking through the shallows

Black-bellied whistling duck floating through the peaceful waters

Young basilisk lizard showing off some beautiful colors

Re: NZ Sacred Kingfisher: NEX-7, 500 F/4.5L

Crazy good... I didn't think the NEX was responsive enough to catch those decisive moments. Bodes well for the next generation A-mounts.

I was thinking Milkweed Bugs too, but they aren't quite right.

Re: Weekly Wildlife Thread: July 7th - July 13th

Nice catch of the Bobcat and very cute of the Chipmunk.  I shoot a lot of chipmunks, but the eastern variety is significantly different and not as acrobatic.

Loving it

Every time I open your posts, I'm just astounded by the not only the shots, but by the variety !!. Just love looking and watching what you folks have mate, just gorgeous subjects. Excellent work behind it all as always, but wildlife in the US is remarkable. Florida, an amazing place on earth IMO mate

All the best Justin, top shots, top work.

Nice images.  I really like the Yellow-crowned Night Heron - nice light on the head and quite sharp.

Do you think the TC really helps?
